…is what the last couple of days have felt like. Yesterday I went for my regular check up at the dentists. I was asked to fill in a form answering questions such as ‘am I aware of clenching or grinding my teeth during the night?’, or ‘do I suffer from recurrent headaches?’. My answers were generally ‘yes’ to most of them. So my dentist asked me if I’d like to try out something called a jig which can apparently show if the headaches are related to a dental problem such as an incorrect bite. So I happily said yes as I’d love to get free of the headaches that have plagued me for as long as I remember.
Then this morning I had my follow up appointment with my doctor regarding my loss of voice. Thankfully, it’s pretty much back to normal except when I try and sing
…….Dave was so pleased when I told him that she’d said ‘don’t sing!!!’. Anyway, she told me that if the problem should recur to see her straightaway and she would get me referred to an ENT specialist and if nothing transpired there, then the next action would be voice training. Apparently it’s very common for teachers (and actors) to lose their voice and it can be cured by learning how to project your voice properly.
Lastly, Dave had an appointment with his renal specialist this afternoon, a lovely Irish doctor with very twinkly eyes
We’ve been seeing him for the last couple of years and he’s amazing as he has so much time for us. Anyway, he wasn’t too happy with the way Dave was treated last Friday, when, after travelling all the way to Leicester, we were told that the exit site infection looked fine and we could go straight home again. At the time we were just relieved to not have to hang around all day like we normally do. But on reflection, I had felt a little concerned that such a dangerous infection was so lightly dismissed. Our doctor today said that Dave should have been given at least another dose of the intravenous antibiotics and then followed up again within a couple of days. The worrying thing is that even though it seems that the infection has been killed off at the moment, it can very easily return. So he’s given him a course of oral antibiotics and told him to get in touch immediately if there’s any sign of the infection returning. If it does return, it could be extremely hard to contain and may well mean the loss of the peritoneal tube. If that were to happen Dave would have to go on haemodialysis which involves 5hr hospital visits, 3 times a week ![]()
Crumbs reading back this makes me sound like a right old hypochondriac! So on a cheerier note here’s a photo which I’d completely forgotten about..rather late I’m afraid. This is an example of the cards the children made for Easter…………they absolutely loved making them!

Oh my goodness, I just found your third post, I’m glad something can be done for your voice & headaches. I love the bunny card, it’s darling! Too bad you can’t sing
Enjoy the rest of your Spring Break! Hugs
I hope your clear now for the headaches and your voice.. too bad you are not allowed to sing.. my son says I kill of the fairy’s when I sing!! good to know though if you voice does go again there is some help out there..

Hi Nikki I hope you can get to the bottom of your headaches . I used to get neuralgia in my face which was resolved by adjusting my bite. Gosh I can imagine that you do get quite a strain on your voice in your profession, voice training might be fun to do anyway. At a family celebration for my Uncle & Aunt’s Golden Wedding, both their daughters got up to make a speech, one is an actor and the difference in the way they made their voices heard in the room was quite startling, so I think voice training can make an enormous difference. It sounds as though your Irish doctor is very caring – hope Dave manages to steer clear of any infection, what a worry
The bunny card is so cute – I love it – My Easter cards were not a patch on that
love xxxx
that’s interesting about the voice training, hadn’t even occurred to me that it would be a good thing for a teacher to do, but it makes sense.
hope the dentist thingyamummy can sort out your headaches.I’m a bit of a martyr to headaches, but that’s mainly in the summer due to the heat. And that’s the reason I dislike summer so much.
will email you when I can with card ideas. Have got two in my little old brain right now,but I’ll put the ideas forward and you can tweak them to suit your class as you’ll have a better idea of what they could or couldn’t do.
The bunny card is excellent.
Glad Dave is ok, and I hope the infection does not come back. It is a worry.
have a lovely day. Despite the scary date of today, so far it’s going well for me! Yikes. Hope I haven’t jinxed myself!

Came back to say – we love Dorset
We’ve been there twice in recent years staying about 8 miles north east of Bridport – We don’t like to venture too far from the coast with our Salty sea dog
