…..I got down to my school work this afternoon. I still have a little to do but after four hours of it I was pining for my computer
Sadly, after Sunday, my blogging will probably revert back to the norm of two or three times a week
. While languishing in bed this morning, making the most of my last day off on my own, I was awakened from my stupor by a feature on This Morning…..a programme I rarely watch but having fallen asleep during the unmissable Jermey Kyle show, the tv had stayed on. (To my US friends, the JK show is an English version of the Jerry Springer show and TM is a kind of daily tv magazine show). Anyway, This Morning were interviewing a lady called Sue Palmer who I really should have heard of as she’s written a lot of education books. Oh, what a lady! Her words were joy to my ears! Everything she was saying was so akin to my thoughts on how our modern society is affecting our children. She has a book out called Toxic Childhood which I’ve ordered. I’ll be interested to read what her solutions are to many of the problems being encountered nowadays.
On the news today, it’s been revealed that key public sector workers in the UK (nurses, police, teachers etc) are unable to afford housing in a large proportion of the country. Teachers cannot afford to buy a house in 70% of towns and, most alarming of all, nurses cannot afford to buy in 99% of British towns! What shocking statistics. Read more here if you’re interested.
It seems that nurses and teachers are getting the same deals everywhere,I know here in Australia their pay is not the greatest either,,
Should be much more i think as they are so needed
Ps great to be back Nikki,Thanks for the warm welcome:o)
Eek I forgot to put the antispam word in and it swalowed up my comment
I shall have to regroup and write it again in a minute
I have never watched Jeremy Kyle and haven’t seen This Morning since it was Richard & Judy although I do like Fern Britton and Phillip Schofield, would they be fun as neighbours J
The book you mentioned sounds interesting – the story in the news yesterday about the teenage party that got out of hand was horrendous – Some of the things that were done were beyond belief and totally incomprehensible. The house prices are ridiculous – I worry how my daughter will get onto the property ladder especially when there will be student loans to pay off. My friend’s daughter has started in Nursing in Brighton and has no hope of getting her own place. The low cost housing promised by developers is usually a very small proportion of what is available, and I think often they are bought by people with an eye to the main chance to sell and make a profit. Human nature can be disturbing! Anyway J I hope you make the most of your last weekend of freedom Love xxxx
The J’s are meant to be smilies!
Hi, Nikki! I can so relate to going back to work after a long and lovely holiday. I’ll think of you Monday morning as I do the same. I will be checking out the author you recommend, but not today, a Saturday. I’m sure you’ll understand why! Oh, do notice I have a new URL because I’ll be discontinuing the TypePad address very soon. Hugs, Julia
was that the woman who was talking about how kids are being forced to grow up too soon? I had TM on while humbug had her lunch, but I don’t know the name of the lady who was talking. I have to say, I agree wholeheartedly. Was it M& S who had to withdraw sales of a poledancing kit for kids? It might not have been them, but it was one of the slightly ‘better’ shops who had had them onsale, and I was pretty disgusted. We are fighting a war against the nutters who prey on kids, yet here they are trying to put children in frilly knickers and pole dancing. Utterly stupid. And so wrong.
Am totally jealous of you being able to go back to sleep like that!
would so love to have lazy mornings once in a while.
thanks for your email at MSG, I have finally replied. It’s taken ages to get any computer time this afternoon.
ok. got to go. lots of love to you xxx
I missed that on TM.. sounds interesting..
That is awful about those not being able to afford to purchase a house.. things get made too difficult these days!
I am going to miss your daily posts when you go back to work and another gorgeous theme from you to brighten my out look
Hugs Pixie
Thank you, dearest Nikki! You are the bestest and the mostest. Love, Julia
