As expected the weather turned mild again once we were back at work. Wet too! I always think it’s such a shame that the newly fallen leaves end up soggy……one of my favourite childhood memories (and I’m sure I’m not alone!) is crunching the crispy, dry leaves underfoot in autumn.
The children returned to school like a whirlwind and I’ve spent all week trying to re-establish some calm……without much success I hasten to add. Why are children so hyper these days??! Within a couple of days it felt like I hadn’t been away. Now we have Christmas to look forward to and all the chaos that goes with it, namely the Christmas Play, ugh, one thing that’s guaranteed to bring out the worst in them due to the boredom of practising the same songs over and over again! Can’t say I blame them really, weeks of work for 15 minutes of fame ![]()
Anyway, back to last week and some of my acquisitions which made up for the misery of the cold weather
I’ve been hanging my head over a pair of Faith shoes for ages. I first saw them probably around Christmas last year and couldn’t quite justify buying them as I’d recently bought another pair. Every time I went into Debenhams which stocks them, they were there until the summer season sandals came in. Imagine my delight then when they appeared again last month. It took going on holiday and visiting another Debenhams to make me buy them though (somethig about being on holiday makes me blow caution to the wind!). I love them!
Visited lots of Starbucks whilst on holiday…lots of warming lattes
, couldn’t resist bying this gorgeous limited edition commemorative mug…..photo does not do it justice as the deep rusty brown colour is actually a metallic copper.
We didn’t confine ourselves to just coffee shops, preferring tea in the afternoons……found a wonderful place in Dorchester which stocked every tea under the sun and had this beautiful inscription on one of the walls (click to make picture bigger):
Lastly, we always leave our cats at home when we go away, under the care of my mum (thanks, Mum!) and my friend Jane. I actually think Nim and Charley really miss each other, look at this!

Gladstone, 1865. The tea quote. Don’t be fooled, I’m not some worldly wise genius, it’s just a quote I really like and know where to find it on the ‘net! It’s perfect, and I couldn’t agree more!
I can’t believe I didn’t stop by again yesterday to see if you’d written.
Loving those shoes. Spray the bottom red, because they’ve got a real Louboutin vibe going on with the built in platform. Love them, love them, love them. Sounds like you were meant to get them.
That mug looks rather lovely. I’ve got beserk buying pink & floral cup and mugs lately. Do I need them? No. Just obsessed and can’t stop buying them!
Aww. Nim and Charley! That’s so cute. Dud won’t go anywhere near a dog, which is why we couldn’t have MIL’s dog here on Halloween night. He would have gone beserk.
Lovely morning here today. Rained a lot last night, so sadly all of our leaves are soggy too. It is a shame, The Girl and Bill are going outside in a bit to sweep up the leaves, would have been nice if she was able to crunch through them. Never mind. She won’t mind getting soggy and dirty.
Christmas play. Can’t wait until I can be the proud mum watching her little girl picking her nose on stage!
have a fab day xxxx
Awww at the last photo and drools over your coffee mug.. I want one!
Yep weather damp and yuck.. making the leaves like soggy cornflakes.. me I still like to walk and kick leaves.. Sweep find it great fun too! lol
Good luck with your class and the Christmas fun .. don’t get that any more and I kinda miss it.. glitter and glue days..
All the best to all
Luv n hugs Pixie xxx
Hi Nikki Sorry you had such a ropey time in the caravan – the photo is hilarious though (sorry!) Glad it’s mild with you, it’s a bit wild and woolly here although I still haven’t started wearing tights to work – I’m such a rebel! Your mug is very cute – the tea shoppe sounds rather nice – I love to find somewhere a bit quirky and fun. The shoes are very nice – they remind me of the sky scrapers I wore in the 6th form! That is such a wonderful photo of canine/feline solidarity – definitely one for the album. Have a good week xxxx
me again. I’ve got a pair of Louis Vuitton stylee shoes that I HAD to buy a few years back. Even though they were a size larger than I take! ha ha ha. I get round this by stuffing the toes with padding, the sort you get in cushions. It sort of sorts it out.
You know how it is, when you just HAVE to have the shoes, you find a way around the tiny problem of them not fitting very well!
glad you got MS. I’ve made a start on it, and was marvelling at the ready peeled spuds that you cook in the microwave and then mash. Now that’s just magic!

I love tea, tea rooms & this quote is very special. It’s one of my favorites. Glad you found your shoes again & bought them, I hope you enjoy them. They look great. Your Starbucks mug is pretty too & Nim & Charley are so cute
I hope your week is starting well & the children are calmer. Hugs
Humm, I love tea and tea rooms!
Just popped in to wish you and Dave a lovely afternoon and a good start to the week, dear Nikki.
Hello sweetie !
Your current theme is so classy ! That red lipstick, wow !!
As I’m typing this, rain is just starting to fall … like cats & dogs ! Of course … as it was a bank day today !!! (yes, go follow Sonia’s logic …)
Sorry the kis are being so hyper … mine are being too … maybe it’s the change of the season … maybe it’s because of the holidays & a break in their school-days routine … I don’t know, but it’s Oh so exhausting !!!
Awww you’re killing me with the last photo !! I’d hug them both !!! (but of course, I’d get a bad cat’s paw in return !! LOL)
Thanks so much for your words about the new site deco (and the felt gingerbread), it’s nice to hear some lovely feedback !
Wishing you a great middle of the week !! Big big hugs my friend ! Do take care ! OXOXO
Ciao Nikki, I forgot to tell you about my dessert: it’s homemade custard, pears (I cooked them with1teaspoon of sugar, 2 tablespoon of white wine and a wee bit of cinnamon) and dark chocolate on M&S
pastry base. It was quite yummy and not too sugar-y. Oh, and Zeno told me to say THANKS for your nice words about his pics
Gotta go, have a super happy day, it’s sunny here so I’m in a very good mood!
Did you have the chance to see the video of the man talking with a strong accent? If not, the link is:

Ohmy! LOL!
Eureka!
I’ve FINALLY
found it: http://www.jamieoliver.com/ So now I will have a look at it and I will let ya know what I think
BTW, right now I’ve seen “sausage carbonara” and I won’t eat it
but will have a better look later. TTFN!
Ciao Nikki!
I’ve read the recipe. Why he call the dish “simple” lasagne?? The recipe is not so bad… not wery Italian
but I’ve seen worst
I wound not use crème fraîche to make besciamella (white sauce). We don’t even have crème fraîche in Italy. And NO anchovies! No, no! He is just usuing TOO MANY ingredients. Plus, he write “I haven’t used a béchamel sauce because it takes too long”. Too long?? 5-10 mins is not long!
last comment (sometimes I am really nasty, LOL): in Italy we really like butternut squash, but I’ve never seen it used to make lasagne, not even in the veggie ones. But I must ask Zeno, maybe in the South they do.
Your hubby likes to cook? It’s great!
Mine too
BTW, he will get back from Germany this evening so I better go grocery shopping now, hugsss!
