beer, helicopters and hair

Sunday was an exhausting but rewarding day. We arrived half an hour late due to poor communication from the tourist board who were organising the day. So to start with we thought ‘uh oh’ this is going to be one of those days especially when we realised that Dave had left the key to the cash box at home   ! It contained lots and lots of change, so we had to raid our purse and wallet and make do……most of our customers were very helpful and tried to give us the right amount of money where possible so there were no problems thankfully :)

The event was a Fenland Festival of Food and Flowers. We were situated in a very large, well heated room which we were thankful for as it was miserable and cold outside. (Normally when we do these things they’re somewhat grander affairs and are held in some stately home’s ground.) Almost immediately on opening we were rushed off our feet. It seems that people are quite happy to sup a tasting of real ale at 10 o’clock in the morning! I really enjoyed talking to different people, especially the oldies who knew our brand of beer from way back. Another thrill was seeing young men, who normally only drink lager, trying bitter, mild and pale ale and loving it! Here’s a pic of Dave in his element :)

Today we had a helicopter arrive at school for a lesson about flying :) and to take aerial photos of our kids standing in a formation of 2008 on the playground. It was terrific fun and the children were so excited to have a helicopter land within yards of their school! After it had landed all the children walked over to it and each class had their photo taken beside it. By the end of the morning I think we had approximately 200 budding little helicopter pilots!

This evening I had my hair cut and coloured and I asked Helen my hairdresser to do it the same as last time (very unusual for me as I’m always up for something new!). Poor Helen was so worried when she realised on washing it out that she’d mixed up the wrong colours! But I love it and am tickled pink (literally!) that she made a mistake :)

  1. girl on chair, in my way, so tricky to write. Excuse any mistakes, it’s her fault!

Love the piccie of Dave, what caught my eye? the poster saying ‘free tasting ‘ I’d have been there like a shot! I am not really an ale drinker, but I am always up for trying it! I will tell Bill to order some in the summer, he’ll gladly do it. He loves a stash of Ale in the fridge, because he knows I won’t drink it! (if it was white wine, different story, I’d drain the bottles. Which makes me sound like Amy Wino, but you know what I mean!) I gave postie one of Bill’s Ales today, it’s one from his CAMRA case, and I think it was called Postmans knock. Something about a postman. I thought I was being hilarious!

Yeah, you are right. I am super fit! No, no lie down afterwards, actually, longs walks seem to give me an energy boost, and I have been a busy bee both days, even with my long walks. :)

Looking forward to the Enders tonight. I love Hev and Shirl, hilarious. Love Minty and Gal too, hope they don’t get rid of any of them. I read today that Honey has got the boot, but Bill is staying, so hate to think what’s going to happen there. :( I have to say, I don’t like that Hazel one, so I hope Minty ditches her!
    got to go.

  2. Hi Nikki! It has been forever since I’ve stopped by….favourites disappeared when we changed computers and I haven’t got everyone back yet.
Glad your change situation worked out OK~ it’s lovely when customers are helpful and try and find the right change for you. Beer is not my thing but Steve has a love of very dark beer so once in a way we have some around. Dave looks happy to be doing what he loves :)

Helicopter display must have been fab! Crispin would love to see that kind of thing…he really likes any kind of large machine but especially anything that flies.

Your hair looks great! I’m due for a cut now and am (in my pregnant state) ready to tell my hairdresser to do whatever she wants!
Off now to check on boys….v. quiet from downstairs! hugs! xo

  3. fogot to say that I love your hair! I once accidentially dyed mine purple, but it didn’t look anywhere near as nice as your pink hair. So I was not happy! xx

  6. :em55: Ha! Ha! Tickled pink. Go, girl! Your day at the show sounds fun – except for leaving the key at home, of course. At least the man did it and not you LOL! What a great thing for the kids to see the helicopter. I’ve never heard of anything like that around here – probably because we’re litigation crazy. I’ve been home two days with a bug – one day in bed and one out. Gave up the magazine theme temporarily for the same reason you stated. Maybe when school slows down. Hugs, Julia PS Love your edit comments plugin; I typed but for bug.
