Stayed up late last night to watch as much of Comic Relief as I was physically able. For anyone outside the UK who doesn’t know what it is…in a nutshell it’s a kind of telethon to raise money for impoverished people. Most of the money raised is used in Africa. It’s called Comic Relief because it was set up by a group of comedians 19 years ago. Click here to find out more Comic Relief. It was a superb night where just about everybody in the entertainment world seemed to have contributed in some way. So many hilarious sketches all punctuated by some of the most moving and harrowing short films I’ve ever seen. I defy anyone to not be moved to tears by the sight of an African mother weeping over the loss of her baby from malaria. Or the brave and elegant young African woman dying of Aids being carried from her home to the hospital for the last time. Or the 11 year old British girl who spends her life caring for her disabled mother and father. Or the sight of a beautiful little African boy gazing at the camera with such sad eyes. His parents had both died of Aids. It’s estimated that a staggering 12 MILLION children have been orphaned through Aids! By the end of the night £40 million had been raised and this figure will probably be double that by the time all the other money raised around the country is finally banked or sent in. Almost £100 million will make an enormous difference to the lives of so many people!
On Monday we will be seeing Dave’s six week old granddaughter for the first time! Much excitement as you can imagine! Kaye and her husband will be making a flying visit for the evening only. They live about 380 miles away and are making other visits too on a very limited amount of time.
Have been out shopping today for crafty type stuff for the Easter cards I’ll be making with the children next week. Only just finished the Mother’s Day ones yesterday which turned out really well. It’s a bit like a conveyor belt operation when you’ve got 27 kids to make them with! But doing that sort of thing is one of my favourite activities. I’d bought lots of cut-out paper flowers, handmade paper, flower sequin type things etc etc. When I got around to making the cards with the two Eastern European girls I have in my class, it was sheer joy to see their faces and hear their gasps of delight when they saw the beautiful array of items they were going to use!

Hello Nikki, thanks for your comment, I can’t imagine your dog looking like a dalmatian, I need a photo
Comic relief sounds wonderful, I’m glad they raised so much money.
It’s going to be wonderful to meet Dave’s granddaughter. Enjoy your weekend Nikki, hugs
I thought last nights TV was brilliant.. the sketches were so funny and those stories as you say so heart breaking.. how to swing from emotion to emotion and amazing at how much money was raised and to such worthy causes..
How great to see Dave’s granddaughter, my middle name is Kaye.. ( just a bit of useless info for you lol)
Have fun making the cards with the little ones, one thing I do miss is the hand made cards..
Have a great Mothers day tomorrow
Hugs Pixie
Hi Nikki…just out blog hopping, and wanted to stop in and say HI! Hope you’re having a great weekend! Lotsa hugs!
I missed Comic Relief because of our trip.
Yes Anne Frank’s House is worth the visit. This time we were lucky, not many visitors so more enjoyable and more time to view everything and use the computers there. You know I read the book when I was 11 or 12 and then we studied it at school too but I never ever forgot the book. And as I went round the house, it was exactly as I had pictured it from Anne’s description. It’s very moving to be there and so hard to imagine that people lived in such a confined space for so long! And the end for them all except the dad is so sad, they died so close to the time they could have been saved!
My old school is not on Special Measures anymore! What a joke this whole business is! The 18 months are up and suddenly everything is fine! Well not according to the teachers still there!
