day out yesterday

We decided that as it was Dave’s last day off and that we’d had two totally lazy days, it was about time to do something. So we went to Cambridge for the day. It’s about an hour away for us and yesterday the roads were very clear. We always do Park and Ride as Cambridge is a nightmare to find a parking space in. First call was the bookshop Borders as we were thirsty and hungry by then. The fact that it contains a Starbucks cafe has nothing to do with the fact that Borders is our absolute favourite bookshop ;) ! I had a grande latte with blueberry cheesecake and Dave had a much healthier option of black Americano and a breakfast panini! I could actually spend all day in Borders..the children’s section is without comparison especially now they have a huge section of educational toys. I bought a number of things for school of course. Another plus there is the Paperchase shop inside, their tissue paper is always so unusual! Then it was on to my other very good reason for visiting Cambridge…the exquisite ‘The Ark‘ which takes my breath away every time I visit. It’s crammed full with the most delightful gifts and has a Cath Kidston section plus lots of Emma Bridgewater and Matthew Rice stuff and LOADS more. Whenever I’m in need of a present, that’s the place I always head for. I had quite a few pressies to buy and got all of them there without any problem :) . I also bought myself a new dress from Debenhams (Jasper Conran again)….I think I’m going to be hunting out this style for the summer as it seems to suit me. There are also lots of gorgeous short shirt dresses around which I had a couple of last year…perfect for school and for hot weather.

Cambridge
Today I’m staying in and doing housework and trying desperately to summon up the will to do schoolwork, aggghh. I should have done it when I first broke up but all I did was sleep. At one time I would always get my school work done as soon as I finished work but nowadays I’m so wiped out by the time the holiday comes that I just want to sleep :( I also have to wait in as Dave is having a new dialysis machine delivered (the new one is so noisy that I’m having to sleep in the spare bedroom!). Hopefully this one will be quieter!

  1. ooh, you’ve done a montage! fab, I love your new dress, and The Ark looks like somewhere I need to visit. I have to check out Bury St Edmunds online to see what shops they have, as Bill wants to pop into a beer festival run by CAMRA this year, if they have any decent shops I might go along and shop with humbug while he tries at a pint!
love borders. Seems so brilliant that they include Starbucks!

The Sunnies. Well, I started off making ‘The luvvies’ (heart shapes, don’t know if you got to see them) by using card back to back, with ribbon running between the two halves so you couldn’t see the ribbon. (make sense?) then I decorated either side of the hearts with glitter. It takes FOREVER to do it that way, so I have evenually worked out the quickest and easiest way. Use foam, then cut up those clear A4 pocket things. They’re sold really cheaply nowadays, then you can either glue or staple your shapes on . The plastic is nice and flexible so the shapes hang well and flutter about in the breeze. :)
any time you need an idea for school, just ask! my little brain is always busy with things to make. For New Year you could make masks.I’ll take a piccie of a couple of masks I made for a NYE Soirée I had a few years ago. :) They would be fun for kids to make, and I could even send you a template in the post. :)

have a great day. Hope Dave’s new dialysis machine is quieter.

  5. Hi Nikki It’s sounds as though you had a good time in Cambridge – I love Paperchase too, we are lucky enough to have a separate shop as well as the one inside Borders. I was thinking about getting another set like this from Mary (The autumnal one) but didn’t realise she was still doing them – Your boys look well behaved next to the desk – not a representative picture I’m sure :) It all lools fab .The Ark sounds like a brilliant shop. Hope your day is wonderful xxxxx

  9. Hello Nikki, how are you? What a lovely trip & I love your purchases & photo. It’s fun you love Borders, it’s one of my favorite bookstores here too. I love the huge selection. The one I know don’t have Starbucks & I don’t think any does as Barnes & Noble do. I don’t know if these bookstores are abroad too.
Anyway, I love this new look, great idea to keep part of your Easter look :) Have a great weekend, hugs
