first day back….

…wasn’t too bad, especially once I’d got up, which is always the tough bit for me  . No children in today, so that we could all get our classrooms ready for the little darlings tomorrow. I spent most of the day setting up a vet’s in the role play area, getting out and cleaning all the outdoor equipment and then taking stock of what games, puzzles etc are already out in the classroom. Most of it needed storing away while I replaced them with similar things, but more suited to the level they have reached at this part of the year. For the first two terms I have a lot of alphabet games, sorting activities, simple number games and easy puzzles out for them to choose from. Now I’m able to bring out activities which involve reading and spelling words (such as snail, cheese, train etc), games involving numbers up to 100, puzzles with more than 50 pieces etc. I just cannot believe we’re now into the final term for these kids! It’s not been the easiest of years.

I feel quite tired but I still have plenty to do…..lots of resources to make for the vet’s and lesson plans to do for the following week. We’ve just been to Tesco’s and done our weekly shop. I was amazed to find that we were in the minority in there, being British. About a year ago, it was estimated that 25% of our town was made up of immigrants from Eastern Europe. I would say it’s now getting on for 40% and tonight it felt like 90%! Seems that this part of the country is one of the most popular places in the UK for them to come and work and live. It’s quite strange to be in your own country and not hear any English voices!

Lastly here’s a photo for my friend Sadie :) .Cool!

  1. hmm. I noticed in the supermarket on saturday they had quite a large selection of portugese foodstuffs. I was there for a while looking at it. shows the immigrants that are around here, if a local supermarket feels the need to stock ‘special’ food.

sounds like you have had a good day. been a warm one again, hasn’t it?

 at your scissors. Yes , I think we have got them from the same place too. I bought some purple ones last year, with little ladybirds along the blades.

still up. wanted to do a little drawing for myself, but it might take too long. I’m tired, little one was awake quite a lot last night :(

have a nice relaxing evening. lots of love to you xxx

  2. Good evening sweet Nikki !

Thanks so much for visiting & for the book advice. He hasn’t (clearly) asked for it yet. (knock on wood)
Today was also back to school for Paul. He was quite happy to see his buddies again.
The temps were so high today, almost like in early June, I think it was almost 29°C by 5 pm ! We went to the beach after Paul’s school & we had much fun. :)
Wishing you a lovely night & good luck with the kids tomorrow.
    OXOXOXOXOX Love ya

  5. Hi Nikki Hope your first day with the children there hasn’t been too trying :) I noticed there is a new shop opening in our local shopping street selling Polish food stuffs, and the Internet cafe is run by a Polish couple. Without wanting to sound too rightwing about this I can’t help feeling all the influx of people into the UK from other European countries must severely affect the number of jobs available to the indigenous population. I’d be interested to know how many Brits have gone to live in Poland :) Not that many, I’ll be bound! Love the scissors, have a great day xxxx
