frustration!

Because: since last writing, the class had really settled down again, but then, uurgh, illness hit and I’ve been off work all week! Supply teachers are brilliant and do their best but inevitably we all have different standards and expectations…..so the worry is that certain little people may have got away with things they wouldn’t with me. Not to worry, the witch is back….well on Monday anyway.

Suffice to say that ‘the illness’ was my 20+ year long fight with Crohn’s Disease. After so many years, I’m pretty good at knowing what I need and it’s usually bed rest. Boring but necessary! Today I’m feeling heaps better than I did this time last week.

So what else has been happening the last couple of weeks? Went to see Slumdog Millionaire, the British film that’s weighed down with 10 Oscar nominations. Truly inspiring stuff. Heartbreaking, funny, harrowing moving. uplifting all in one film, amazing!

Bed rest gave me the opportunity to finish the last of the Twilight series…Breaking Dawn. It has an air of finality about it, very sadly, so I’ve done something I’ve never ever done in my life….started all over again. There’s dedication and obsession for you! Can’t wait for the DVD now.

A few pics to share, firstly  a precious gift made by my highly talented friend, Sadie. A beautiful rose brooch made from sumptous plum velvet, it’s sooooo me! Her work just gets better and better! Second and third, two acquisitions I couldn’t resist, a Jasper Conran bag which I really didn’t need  plus a laptop bag which I really DID need and an absolute bargain from Ollie and Nic. Lastly a couple of treats for Charley, the girl I never had ….. well how else do I indulge my love of all things pink, pretty and sparkly??! She loves her new collar and tag!

  3. So good you’re feeling better. You must be if you’re ironing! Love your purchases, especially that black bag – drool! Of course, the brooch is so special in that it is a handmade gift. Hope the little imp falls back in line when you return to school. All it takes is one day sometimes! That is a true testament that you have started the Twilight all over. One of my junior girls is just starting the last book, and oh, the look on her face when I walked over to ask her about it. It was love!

    *blush* thank you!

I am so glad you are feeling better. Now, what is her name. Carrie thingummy, that singer with very red hair married to David whatshisname (they used to do the Fame Accademy thing on BBC1) she has Crohn’s too. I’ve read about what she has to do to try to control or rather, help to control the illness. It sounds utterly grim, so I am very sorry you have it and it flares up like this.

Hope the little tearaways are soon back in line once The Witch is back. I love that you call yourself the witch!
Am loving both bags. A girl can never have too many bags :) Although, I am going to be brave and have a little cull of mine next time a charity bag comes through the letterbox. One or two I know I’ll never use, and one I know my sister would use so she can have it. Time to be sensible as I had a little tidy up of my wardrobe on Friday, and realised I needed to do some proper sorting.

We’ve had some snow today, just flurries though a few minutes ago it was quite heavy and started to settle, but blue sky has swept in and spoilt it all! I still feel sure there is a lot more to come though, the sky is blue then grey then white. Sure sign of snowness.

Was a bit upset earlier on. The yellow rescue helicopter landed in the park behind us, and sailed over to where there is a cut through to the main A road. It means someone has been hurt and needed to get to hospital quickly. It knocked me for six, as it brought back the accident with far too much clarity. I know the helicopter is brilliant, and saves so many lives, but for me seeing it just brings back that awful feeling from 2005. I still remember every detail from that day, the weather, what I was eating, wearing, doing at the time.
When I know there has been an accident I have to get on the phone to call my family to check all is ok, I never want to have *that* phonecall ever again.

Thankfully all is ok here, but someone somewhere will have had that horrible phonecall by now and it saddens me so much.

Time I was off. Have a lovely afternoon. Snowing again here at the moment, teeny flakes, but it’s a start!

  6. :( I went to look at the photo of Charley’s collar and tag and lost my comment! Anyway sorry you’ve been off this week – it must be a terrible thing to cope with, but as you say you know your own body and how to deal with it. Hope you’re fighting fit now and ready to sort out any backsliders :) Gosh the Twilight books must really have captured your imagination for you to start all over again. I am looking forward to getting my varifocals so I can catch up on my reading – I have been listening to a lot of Radio 7 to get my story fix without having to peer at anything. Your bag looks lovely as does the velvet brooch but I will wait to post before I have a closer look  Have a good week lots of love xxx

  8. Hi, Nikki. Hope you were able to get back to school and that all went well. I loved your comment about taking a hundred words when just a few would do. The poor curriculum coordinator is only 31 and trying to hard to move up the supervision ladder. She’s assigned us a book of interest only to supervisors, I fear. Of course, she does have many good qualities, but common sense may not be one of them. It’s Peyton Place at our school, and she and her honey the head coach are at the center of all the gossip. Not the best avenue to take when you’re that ambitious. Ah, I digress, but one cannot mention these things in her own blog!

hello! I take it you didn’t get much snow and what there was didn’t last? Ours wasn’t bad, but went all too quickly for my liking.

Been a bit crafty offline so far this week, which is why I have been quiet. Some days I swear there really are not enough hours in the day to do all I want or need to do. The sewing machine is a big distraction for me too! Not that I’ve made anything with it lately, just using it for small sewing tasks.

Ok, got to go. Just wanted to say hello.Oh, the back is an injury from summer 2002, it comes back from time to time, just to let me know it’s still there. Of course now it could well be old age kicking in! xxxx

  11. Hi Nikki, sorry to hear you were not well, I suppose you are all better by now. I saw Slumdog Millionaire and loved it. I especially loved the ending song Jai Lo and dance at the end. I am finally reading the fourth book of the Twilight series, I’m sorry to hear that it ends in finality  , I was hoping for a continuation. I heard London was at a standstill with the snowfall the got last week, it would stop us here, lol. I don’t remember ever missing work because of snow, . *hugs*

:) thanks for the good wishes. She seems tons better now, in fact, she’s been hurtling round the house singing and dancing. A good sign I think! She has a bit of colour in her cheeks and had a little something to eat. She’s now having a much needed nap. I knew it was the mango, because it looked just like the mango puree I used to make up for her when she was a baby – it goes all pale orangey yellow and frothy!!!!

On that delightful note – and sorry if you read this just before lunch – I shall bid you good day. Did R have a good birthday?

    xxx
