getting my life back!

After the all encompassing job of doing reports, which I started on 29th May, I can now resume my normal life as they’re finally finished and printed off (200 pages!). I feel like I’ve written a book! Difference being that I don’t get paid any extra for doing it. Ah well, all part of the wonderful job I’m lucky enough to have. I hope the parents will enjoy them…..I was going to say ‘as much as I’ve enjoyed doing them’ but that’s not exactly true. I find it a slog but the end result is always something to be proud of. Along with all the detailed comments about what the child can do, what they’ve done and what they need to aim for next, I always include 5 photos per child. The photos are taken throughout the year and will show the child doing different activities such as walking along a balance bar, painting a picture, playing in the home corner dressed up as a postman etc. I actually think the reports we produce in Reception are probably the most detailed and enjoyable a child receives throughout their school career. How lovely for a parent to have ‘fly on the wall’ pics of their child working or playing in the classroom! And what a brilliant artefact to look back on years hence.

Tomorrow I welcome into the classroom half of my new intake for September. They will make three visits to me between now and the end of term…….serves to reassure them that their new teacher is not an ogre! The other half will visit in the afternoon. Numbers are very low due to a fall in the birth rate. Not sure if that’s nationwide, but it’s certainly the case in this area. I will have 23 children as opposed to the normal 30 ….. bliss! This will include two delightful little Polish girls who have no English at the moment.

Lastly, because I don’t like to do a photoless post, here’s a pic of my first piece of Susie Watson china. I’ve loved her stuff from afar for some time and often go and drool at her website. I was thrilled to spot some of her stuff at a food hall we visited recently and couldn’t resist buying this precious little mug!

  4. me again :) Hurrah, it’s Friday! (that’s more for your benefit than mine, I don’t really get that Friday Feeling anymore).

Well, do you know. That Luke is really grating with me now. He’s like Lorraine Kelly. When she interviews people she’s totally syrupy and slurpy and agrees with everything they say. Even if she’s just said ‘I really love those shoes’ and the person next to her says ‘they’re ok, but I don’t like the shape of the heel’, she’d immediately say ‘oooh nooo, I think you’re right, I don’t like it either’. She does it all the time and it winds me up. Yes, we are all entitled to change our minds, but urgh, does she have to do it the second someone has said the opposite to her?! I digress. Luke does the same. He oils up to everyone, and makes out he’s a nice chap. He slinks around with a slightly nasty look on his face and acts like he’s Hercule Poirot when he suspects someone is playing a game. Hmmm. You think? You’re all in a game show, with a cash prize at the end of it, do you really think some of the cads are playing a game???!! The way he was with Sylvia last night was sickening. I don’t think she was messing around at all when she called him a w***er, but just couldn’t be bothered to carry on and say why she’d said it. Given that she’s shown no sign of a sense of humour since she went into the house, I can’t believe that she suddenly wanted to be ‘funny’. I half feel sorry for him, because I bet he didn’t fit in at school, and I bet he was the butt of a lot of jokes, so he must be delighted to think he’s well and truly in with the ‘in crowd’ in the BB house, but none of them will want to know a George Formby meets Ashley from Corrie type of character when they get out. And if he says he’s been told he looks like Justin Timberlake one more time!  With all the mirrors in the house, you’d think he might take the time to look in one! He even said that the girl who said it to him was drunk at the time! So, he looks like JT through beer goggles then!

Time to get off my soapbox. Thought Dale did really well in the task, but this so called ‘lurve triangle’ between him, Stuart and that girl who looks like Cheryl Tweedy/Cole (whatever) from Girls Aloud. Can’t think of her name.

And that concludes Big Brothers Little Mouthy Sisters review for the day.

    GET SLYVIA OUT!
    ;) xxxxx

  5. Oh My God! So Perez – sorry, Dennis – has gone!!!! ooh, I wonder why. I can’t say that I liked or disliked him. But I did find it hilarious when he was sitting around ‘avin’ a fag as he barked keep fit orders at the others. That was classic! I didn’t like how he immediately told Darnell to lie about why they were slung in jail, but, on the other hand, I can understand why he didn’t want them to know the truth. Showed he had a very quick and devious mind though. I just hope this doesn’t mean that tonight’s eviction is off, I do not want Slyvia in there a moment longer.
I think C4 have been a bit subdued with BB this time, don’t you? Most nights it’s on at 10, and I can’t be the only person who thinks that’s a touch too late. The other day I thought I’d sew and watch repeats/live stuff on E4, but there was none on there. Previously it’s totally dominated C4 for the whole duration.

right. Must go. Have been in the bath and it’s time to chill out downstairs :) xxxx

p.s keep me posted if you hear any more news about Dennis. Oh the drama!

  6. *tsk* I’ve had to stop painting my nails, switch the computer back on so I could come over and leave another comment!

Firstly. Jen, oh get over it! It’s just a picture. Hmm, maybe she was upset because it was Stu??? ( who reminds me of the Yorkshire Ripper, maybe it’s the facial hair shifty eyes combo?) God. She’s still whining on!

Secondly. Darnell. Love you mate, but please, stop talking like that! You are from Ipswich!!!!!!!!! We DO NOT talk like Huggy Bear round here!! Ok, I know he’s spent time stateside, but I am highly sus of his accent. He has a sweet singing voice though, and I do like him. :)

Phew. Now that’s off my chest, time to get back to nail painting. Am looking forward to seeing DennisGate!

  8. Hi Nikki! Haven’t been over in ages (too much end of school stuff for us to do as well…from the other side!) but had to stop by today. SO glad you got all your reports done…yikes, 30 children in a class seems so huge! I’m sure you’ll love having only 23 for next year :) I think it’s fab that you include piccies of each student….it’s amazing to see your child in a school environment when you’re not there. (if that make any sense at all!)

C’s last year’s class had 20 students although the general guideline is about 25-28 for his age (7 turning 8). His school had the space and funds to have 3 grade 2 classes and I was so thankful as he needs lots of extra help with learning which was far easier in a smaller class.

Love the mug! The artwork on it is gorgeous~ I haven’t seen her before and I’ll have to look around here for a similar style. I’m currently addicted to pink anything!!
G waking up so must fly and hope you have a lovely weekend! Enjoying yourself as you deserve to :)
    Lots of love! xo

  9. Hi, Nikki! I’m back from staycation! Love that mug so much. I was so interested to read about your reports; they do sound like lovely and useful artifacts, but my goodness the time you expended! I will be doing a little paperwork thing myself this week – curriculum mapping of English IV. I watched Zodiac tonight; parts of it were difficult to watch, but it became rather mesmerizing toward the end. How could that man be so clever to elude the police for so long?! It’s scary! I am well into your excellent book now and very anxious to find out whodunit; it’s very tricky that. Have a good Monday!

  10. Hi Nikki! I only have about 55 more days left before we go back! Do I have to? I love that mug! So cute! Hope you are enjoying summer vacation now! Hugs
