Well I start the new year with the two addictions I ended the last year with. Both of which are stopping me from updating here more often. The first is my ridiculous compulsion to be top in all the word games I’m playing on Facebook, ugh, wish i’d never started them! The second is my rather immature fascination with the Twilight books. I have to confess that ever since watching Gary Oldman play the lead in Dracula in 1992, I’ve had a thing about vampires
Daft I know! Anyway, a few weeks before my birthday I laid what I now realise were far too subtle hints to Dave that I’d like the four books. Hmmm, birthday comes, no books, so I went out and bought the two that were in the shops (first and third) thinking that I’d have plenty of time to search around for the second and fourth after Christmas. I started reading Twilight straightaway and immediately became addicted. After finishing it I then went tracking the second book. By this time, with the film having come out by then, there were very few of any of the series available. After scouring a town nearby with no luck, I was feeling desperate. Imagine my delight when doing the supermarket shopping I spotted one lone ‘New Moon’ languishing in a very small book section! I soon gobbled that one up so am now onto ‘Eclipse’. My love of these books was heightened even more by going to see Twilight the film yesterday. My darling Dave came along with me even though it really wasn’t his sort of film, bless him! So what is it about these books that makes middle aged women (like me) and young girls so obsessed? I’d like to say read them and see but I know that they’re definitely not for everyone. All I can say is that the romance between the two main characters is touching, passionate and compelling….and with absolutely no sex!!
Christmas came and went very quickly as usual. We had the main day to ourselves, then Boxing Day Tom arrived for a couple of days and on the Sunday we spent the day with Dave’s sister and BIL. Last night we celebrated New Year’s Eve at home with the doggies. Bubbly and Elton John saw in the new year and then we stayed up until the wee hours watching the music channels spinning out golden oldies.
Yesterday we also went shopping. We were in need of a new shade for our ceiling light and I just knew that John Lewis would have something suitable. As soon as I went into the lighting dept, I saw the one I wanted. To my delight it was one of a very few that had been marked down to half price! Hard to tell the colour from this but it’s one of my favourite colours at the moment, a kind of very pale turquoisey grey.
I’m so glad we decided to stay at home for Christmas, much as we missed the children, the dogs have just loved us being here with them. Here’s a photo of them, taken this morning while Dave was eating his breakfast in bed!
Last but not least, Happy New Year to one and all and let’s hope 2009 is a million times better than the gloom mongers are predicting it will be!

Happy New Year, sweetie !
thanks for stopping by ! You know I have to motivate myself a lot to get organized & get busy. It doesn’t come naturally ! LOL And with the coming move, it became a bit necessary for me.
The new lampshade is so beautiful ! And half price, great !!
Sending you tons of hugs, and wishing you, Dave & the dogs a healthy & happy 2009 ! xoxox
Happy New Year to you Nikki and all
What a great bargain you got with the new lampshade and love the photo of the dogs.. to cute!
My sister love those types of books… will have to see if she has them for me to borrow..
I am hoping that the new year isn’t going to be as bad as they say.. if it is well we will just have to make the most of what we do have!
Take care
Luv n hugs Pixie xxx
Happy New Year!
Sorry I’ve not been about. Just not felt like surfing around at all.
Well, before I forget, I am loving your new light. Serendipity that it was a bargain too!
Sounds like you had a good NYE, and much better than last years, hey?
CBB. Ok, I have to say this, I am not an Ulrika fan, but I don’t hate and despise her either. I don’t like the way she’s so catty about other people (like her recent dig at Myleene, which now she’s in CBB seems like a bad case of sour grapes. She said something snidey like how Myleene was everywhere at the moment and it was all down to a reality show!!!!! (IACGMOOH) Hello?! ) But my gripe with her and that Mutt girl, is that they are mums. And how can they just choose to up and leave their children like that in order to get their mugs on telly? It makes me fume. Ulrika-ka-ka’s youngest child isn’t a year old yet, and I cannot imagine leaving my little one for a couple of weeks or so at her age, let alone when she wasn’t even a year old. Apart from the fact that I was breastfeeding, I could not have wrenched myself away from her, for all the money or Chanel bags in the world. And rightly or wrongly, I have a real problem with that. It’s not like they have to do it,they choose to do it.
A note to Michelle Heaton though, please stop plucking your eyebrows, pencilling them back in a metre higher, and caking your eyes in make up! Yikes! She seems like a nice girl (though I did notice a look on her face when she said hello to Lucy, hmm, something to do with her being pals with Jords, and Lucy slating her?), I just wish she’d lay off the make up a bit, I’m sure she’d look tons better without it.
I think Verne will win. Seeing how hard it was for him to just get into the house and to carry that bag in (who on earth made him have a bag so large? Idiots) was a real eye opener to how hard his everyday life must be. He had to stop and catch his breath, which is something I’d never had thought of before. He seems like a nice geezer, and his dirty laugh is great! That Terry bloke has always been vile, bet he goes pretty quickly. I half expected David VD to turn up!
we were ok with the power cut, thank you for worrying! When it happened the heating had been off for only an hour, so the house was warm. Little one was toasty in her cot, and I was busy, so we were fine. WE couldn’t use the heating for the same reason as you, but at least I could make tea with my pink kettle on the gas hob!
have a lovely evening. enjoy your books! xxxx
afternoon!
just watching last night’s CBB. Latoya seems nice, if a bit nervy of everyone. Even though he’s a big character, I like Koolio (or is it Coolio? No idea)
hope you are having a good day. Freezing here today, quite literally. I put boiling water in the bird baths this morning, and they still have thick chunks of ice around the edges!
xx
Great post, Nikki! You are bubbling over with enthusiasm for everything. I love that about you. The light shade is beautiful. Great fashion for your home! The doggies are precious, of course. I think that is a special kind of joy to get caught up by one author that way. I haven’t done it lately, but I know exactly how you feel. I will definitely put those books on my wishlist to read. We have been busy, babysitting a lot, so I’ve already neglected blogging. Hopefully, that will not last. Hope you have a lovely Monday.
I can’t help it, I think Coolio is hilarious! I know he’s irritating and it must be hard work living with him, but his constant ramblings just crack me up!
I don’t think I like the liverpool girl (can’t remember her name). One minute she’s sucking up to people (oh Ulreeekaar, you’re dead gorrrrgeous), the next trying to make out she’s all tough by saying ‘watch out, be nasty to me, and I’ll be twice as nasty’. Hmm. Really? She says that to people she thinks she’s safe saying it to, but says nothing to those it’s aimed at. (Coolio) She tends to hide in the ashtray or in the kitchen, and keeps out of the way. I can’t really work her out. She says she shy etc, but doesn’t come across as that.
There has been a lot of poo spoken so far, I’m looking forward to when the fake facade that they start out with goes, and they start being themselves. Still like LaToya and Verne, and even though I have no idea who Ben is, he seems like an ok lad. Lucy *yawn* Ulrika – what is her problem?! Her little rant at the end of her weather report, going on about how it was so long ago since she was a weather girl. Yes, but you couldn’t really demonstrate what you are famous for on TV , could you Ulrika?!!! I’m not keen on her, I have to say. She seems very bitter and bitchy.
Hope you are keeping warm to and from school, and while you’re there. It is so cold I can’t believe it. Last night I had us all swaddled in extra blankets and I still felt chilly. Which is not like me at all.
Time I was off. Have a lovely evening. Telly is great at the moment, I have Masterchef at 8.30, the straight over to CBB! Fab!
xxxxx
Helloooo!
ooh, I understand your envy! It’s absolutley gorgeous, can’t wait until it’s all systems go. I am lucky and a teensy weensy bit spoilt!
Masterchef. I love that programme so much. I’d wet myself with the invention test when all 6 of them go in at the start. That said, last night is the first time I’ve ever thought instantly of what I would make (normally I’m thinking ‘wonder if they have McCain chips in the freezer?). Fish pie. How come not one of them made a fish pie using the haddock and the spinach? It literally sang out that it was the perfect thing to make. That vicious looking woman and her fish on pastry with spud slices on top!!! What on earth?!
I have to say that I was gutted they didn’t put the young lad through. His food may have been dry, but he tea smoked it and really put a lot of effort into it. The lady who went through made yummy looking stuff, but, she just comes across to me as someone who can put her mind to anything and make a success of it. I mean, she’s a social worker with four kids! Superwoman in my book! I have no doubt she could decide to switch career and do it well, whereas the young lad was at the perfect age to start a good career. Tough call, but I would have preferred the lad to have got through.
No, Davina hasn’t been doing all the progs, and I’m not really sure why they roped her in for it last night.
I am loving Terry, and I did not expect to at all. He’s so laid back and seems like such a good laugh. Can you imagine how it would have been if Malone or Coolio had been head of house? not fun at all. Malone is getting right on my chimes. The stupid faces she pulls when spouting out her ‘tough’ words, her ridiculous musings on life and herself. All this ‘I am confident so I have no problem with pretty women’. Really. That’s why she has to proclaim such things then. Methinks the lady doth protest too much. I feel sorry for her, ‘cos she seems to hate her looks and her body, but then makes out she’s happy within herself. Doesn’t ring true with me. I hate my gut and my nose, but other than that I’m happy with my lot. Could be worse. She hates everything about her outward appearance, and I am of the mind if you don’t like anything about your own packaging, how can you be happy with the product inside? I think she’d be much nicer if she stopped sucking up to Ulreeekaaa, and stopped making out she is tough, and started being herself. did you see her scoffing the crisp that Ben had been licking the flavour off? Hilarious. She just came along, said ‘what flavour is this?’ and before anyone could stop her, had it in her piehole. It was soooooo funny! Apparently Ben just licks the flavour but doesn’t eat the crisp! Wasteful boy .
I agree, LaToya must not realise that we can hear everything. Her marriage tale was awful. I felt sorry for her going through such a hideous time.
thanks for your words about little one! I think the pupils part was more luck than anything. She was just on a roll, and the crayon seemed quite ‘loose’, so I’m sure it was just coincidental that the eyes had dots. I’m still proud though!
xxxx
Tough call on who goes tonight. I just can’t decide!
have a lovely evening xx
is it warming up at all where you are? It is FREEZING here still. The trees are still covered in white frost, I’ve just been out to pour hot water on the birdbaths as they are totally frozen over, and I’ve put the heating back on. Pretty unusual for me to put the heating on in between it’s set times, but I’ve had to do so twice this week.
I want that Tina one to go from CBB pretty soon. Her empty threats and ridiculous faces are getting right on my chimes! If she wants to argue, just do it! Don’t go around whispering about how she doesn’t like people and then be nice to their faces!
right. got some ‘net stuff to do. Have a lovely afternoon and stay warm (oh, and while it will be ‘milder’ – allegedly – this weekend, it’s going to get cold again next week. I saw on metcheck.com that they had rainy/sleety/wintery showers forecast for either this week or next. So get those thick tights ready!) xxx
hello!
It’s a bit warmer here now, but the sky is very grey
don’t worry about getting the same bag, not alot can be done about that when she only has one on her website! I have to admit I was disappointed that she didn’t have more of a selection, and went over to the JL site to see if they had more, but they don’t seem to sell them online. Bill was keen to get one sorted out, so that’s why we just thought that will do and got it. Which makes me sound as if I don’t like it, but not the case.I love it! Can’t wait to get it, and it will nice for the laptop to have a proper home.
Just replied to your email
am back. had to take a break to change a stinky nappy!
Yeah, that’s why I was laughing at the dads so much yesterday. I bet they get home and say it was easy to do the shopping with a toddler! Not from what I could see!
time I was off. Have a lovely afternoon, and heed my warning. Weather will get colder again soon!
xxxx
I will have to email you about CBB! I don’t dare to voice my thoughts here, but I will say that Malone woman – ARgggchhhh!
she makes me want to scream. Very good at branding everyone else as selfish (well, Coolio), when I think she’s so self centred and amazingly selfish, and the gob on her! Urgh. Get rid! Pleeeeeaase!
I am so loving Terry. He’s too honest for his own good!
have a great day xxx
Ciao Nikki, just popped in to wish you, Dave and the dogs a healthy & happy 2009!
the laptop bag arrived! Wow. is all I can say. I thought it was quite a lot of money for what it was, but now I’ve seen it in the flesh I think it’s worth it. Really lovely. You have to get one!
time to get on with my ironing. have a lovely Friday p.m xxx
tish tosh, don’t you dare buy one. I will be sending you one once I’ve got a really good stash (8 made now!). The fabric wasn’t an ebay find, but a proper shop online. I will send you the link, because they are brilliant. Postage was pricey I thought, but, it’s not sent RM, but by courier. That makes it well worth it. So the order I made Weds arrived at 8.30 this morning! By the time Jeremy Kyle had started I’d turned some of it into a brooch!
Did you see Masterchef last night? Totally brilliant. I thought that young lad was first class (they all were, but the other blokes comedy tache was annoying me, it made his mouth look permanently downturned when it wasn’t!). He’s my bet so far to win. Last year the bloke who won was fantastic. A barrister who wanted to change his life, his name was James, he had curly hair and was totally amazing. I hope he’s in the process of setting up a restaurant or writing a book, I’d certainly buy his book and would love to visit his restaurant! I agree with you though, that elimination bit at the start is harsh. So unfair. I wish they’d just let them all cook, they do after all win their round!
Terry to win cbb! There is something really nice about him, even when he’s sticking up for people or chivvying them along (Tommy and Coolio) he does it in such a jovial way you can’t help but laugh. I am so surprised. Thought he’d be a total a**e, but he’s a top geezer.
Two already!!!! Where on earth does the time go! Nikki, you are in for such a superb weekend! Don’t worry about the ‘net, just enjoy your family! xxxx
Ding Dong, the Mouth has gone! hurrah! I’m so glad Malone was booted.
Little something has gone in the post to you today. I hope it doesn’t get too squished!
xxx
Hi, Nikki! Hope you’re feeling well. We’ve been a bit crazy here with Roy adjusting to a “volatile” H blocker, but they’ve taken him off that for the time being. School is going well enough; yesterday was a fun day. Have a nice day!
