It’s a beautiful day here, very spring like even though there’s another 18 days until that great day. We’re having a lazy day today as yesterday was very tiring, especially for Dave. The hernia he’s been suffering with for the last two weeks is becoming increasingly painful for him. We travelled to Leicester hospital yesterday where he had his dialysis fluid tested at various times throughout the day. Reason being that they will then be able to tell how well he is dialysing and whether he needs to do more or maybe less. His home nurse was on hand to tell us that he’s been added to the hernia waiting list but in the meantime she wants him to change to overnight exchanges. This means that he’ll do none during the day and will be emptier than he normally is…..they’re hoping that less fluid pressing on his hernia will equal less pain. Dave’s not happy about this as he feels that due to his dialysis he should be a priority for the hernia repair rather than just go on a waiting list! He also had to have a herniogram. The doctor performing it decided to inject the dye (which is normally injected in to the tummy and shows up where the hernia is) straight into his peritoneal tube, something he’d never done before. The xray was then taken and he asked Dave what he should do about recapping his tube. Dave said that it needed a new cap to which the doctor said he hadn’t got any. So Dave said use the old one. When he came out and told me this I was horrified as one of the things we were taught on the dialysis training was to never re-use any of the equipment especially the cap! So we went back to the Renal Unit and they were even more horrified than me and immediately gave him a complete new tube which is something that’s normally only done every six months. We’re all astonished that the doctor in the xray dept had absolutely no training in this as many dialysis patients get hernias!
Aside from yesterday I’ve had a busy but good week. Next week I have a parents day when I will see all my parents to give them a report on how their child is doing. So some of this weekend will be spent typing up reports for each child. I’m hoping that tomorrow we’ll be able to do a little shopping…Dave will probably have to sit and wait for me as he can’t walk for long at the moment, bless him.

What kind of perfume or cologne do you like to wear? Daily wear is Pomegranate Noir by Jo Malone but I’m always searching for Le Feu D’Issey which was discontinued a few years ago. I’m also wearing from time to time Dior Addict which Dave bought me for Christmas.

poor Dave! That sounds so nasty.
It is shocking that the dr didn’t have the basic knowledge. I’ve only ever had brilliant service on the NHS, and no complaints. Last year when my midwife thought Humbug might be breech, I even got an extra scan sorted out within the week, and was in and out within about 10 mins, hardly any waiting or anything. The only trouble with our hospital is they are doing something in the car park, they’ve taken some away to build an extra wing, so it’s a total nightmare trying to park.
Thanks for your email. We all have much to deal with don’t we?
I hope you can get some shopping done tomorrow. That’s what we’re planning to do too. I told Bill I want to go to Debenhams to look at hats & fascinators, if I don’t see one that I like then we will order the one from the internet.
We’re also looking for a christening gift for humbug. I’m thinking pearls as that’s her birthstone. She should have been born at the end of May as expected, then we’d be shopping for Emeralds!
hope you have a lovely evening. lots of love to you xxxx
Sorry about Dave, I hope he feels better very soon. Of course Buddy is allowed everywhere LOL he’s spoiled rotten
Isn’t it amazing that we have the same weather although we’re so far apart? It’s a bit windy here because we’re close to the ocean. Have a great weekend, hugs
well, I’ve been missing Christmas, so I thought I’d have Christmas in March. All was going well until my site was deleted! For lunch today we’ve had roast chicken, with roast spuds, yorkshire puds, stuffing, gravy, bread sauce, sprouts and cranberry sauce. I asked Bill to get me some festive candles from the Yankee candle shop on Friday, he came back with mistletoe, christmas wreath and something else that I can’t remember. After losing my site I didn’t feel so festive, so didn’t light the candles, but will keep them for when I feel like a dose of Christmas through the year!
I defend the NHS too. Once I visited an American friends site, she was talking about healthcare and saying how much things cost over there. I mentioned the NHS and how lucky we were to have it. Well, I went back later on and someone (who did not live in England, which really wound me up) was slating the NHS and saying how we weren’t as lucky as we thought we were, blah, blah, blah. Her research? She’d read ‘an article’. ooh, a whole one hey? Then she must really have known her stuff!!!!
Anyway. I get out of my pram if someone outside the UK says the NHS isn’t that good. I think it’s great, it’s only the odd blip here and there that makes things seem worse than they are, and that can happen if you go private too.
ok.I shall shut up now! Hope you have had a good weekend. lots of love xxxx
by the way. I am a Christmas addict. Plan for it all year round, watch Christmas films in the middle of summer, that kind of thing. Thought I’d just add that, so having ‘christmas in march’ wouldn’t seem like I was just some total nutter!
