Been a long time!

A combination of things have prevented me from keeping up my blog. Firstly our week away, then housework and washing to catch up with plus the usual heavy load of school work to do. Then to cap it all, our internet connection has been hugely unreliable this week. Our Internet provider has blamed a series of power outages in the UK, although none were close by, so I’m not sure how it came to affect us! Nights without the internet meant I was distraction free to do other things that sometimes get a little overlooked.

Our week in Dorset was suitably restful. The weather was rather unkind which meant lots of wet towels hanging around in the caravan and muddy dogs to boot! However we refused to allow it to spoil our break and a great time was had by all. Lots of time spent with my step grandson who is now 4, an age I particularly love :) . I managed to get lots of Christmas shopping done and I’m now in the most unusual position of having all my smaller presents. Just close family to buy for now. I was determined to take the opportunity of buying gifts from shops which I wouldn’t normally get the chance to go to. The area we were staying in has a wonderful selection of unusual shops. When I get time I’ll post some photos of our holiday.

On Wednesday we had Dave’s latest check up with the renal specialist. As he is now down to 9% kidney function, his doctor has decided it’s time to get the ball rolling for dialysis. So within the next couple of months he’ll be going in to have a permanent tube placed in his tummy for PD. It was a shock to see that his function had dropped 2% in the last six weeks but we’re kind of relieved that we now have some idea of when the dialysis will start. We’re well prepared for it, having thoroughly cleaned our bedroom, installed a kind of computer type trolley for the dialysis machine and banished Travis to the kitchen at night time. The latter has been the hardest thing as ever since we’ve had him (six and a half years) he’s slept on our bed. We’re three weeks into him sleeping in the kitchen and he still whines at night!!

Finally, a big hello hug to all my friends and I’m hoping to come visiting this weekend :)
