…..and I’m hoping that now I’m back my posts will be rather more regular. After the last few months it’s been horribly difficult to put my fingers to the keyboard and write about my life, such as it is. What a year it’s been and it occurred to me that in 1999 life changing events also happened…..clearly years ending in a 9 are momentous in my life as I was married to my first husband in 1979!
I ended my last post by saying that I didn’t think it would be long before we moved on to pastures new. Not just to a new house but to the other end of the country. Well almost! No we haven’t done it yet but it’s planned for December/January depending on when I can leave my job. We’re moving 250 miles away to Dorset where Dave’s daughter and grandchildren live and it can’t come soon enough! We spent last week down there, looking at cottages to rent which just made us even more eager to get down there. It’s something we’ve been keen to do for years but while my mum was alive, it was not an option as I needed to be here for her. I’ll be moving further away from my son and my brother but I’m hoping that I’ll actually see more of them as when they come to stay it’ll be for days at a time rather than the few hours we get at the moment.
A major reason for our move is to get away from where we are at the moment. Being burgled was the last straw. England is certainly not the place it was but our town has changed beyond recognition. Last week, walking around the town we’re moving to, was a delightful experience which I’m sad to say is the direct opposite of what it’s like here. I’ve lived here all my life and I know I’ll have no regrets whatsoever. I’ll be putting my name down on the supply teacher list and Dave already has a job in the offing.
As it’s our first wedding anniversary on Friday we’re treating ourselves to a weekend in London. We’ve booked a rather plush hotel in Kensington and are off to see Les Miserables on our special night. Les Mis is my absolute most favourite show of all time. I last saw it about 15 years ago and cannot wait to see Dave’s reaction when he sees it for the first time! Then on Saturday we’re going to London Zoo as we both love zoos and, again, it’s been many years since I last went. On Saturday night we’re hoping to see the film of one of my top 5 books The Time Traveller’s Wife. My mum lent me it to read when we went to Scotland last year. It’s a magical book and I remember mum’s excitement when I told her that a film was being made of it. It was originally supposed to be coming out on Boxing Day 2008 but for some reason was delayed to August 14th (our wedding anniversary!). It makes me so sad though that my mum never got to see it.
After much soul searching, my brother and I decided to put mum’s house up for sale a few weeks ago. It had been our home from when we were 9 and 11 respectively. The house was built for us so had only ever had our family living in it. After our dad died, mum did miraculous things with the garden and up until her death it was a joy to behold. It broke my heart to see it starting to get untidy after all the time she spent on it. For that reason, and also because it was costing us money to keep it empty, with heavy hearts we made the decision. We weren’t terribly optimistic about it selling but unbelievably it was sold in less than 24 hours! The sale was agreed on 12th July and the new owners moved in last week on 6th August! What a terribly sad time it’e been though as we’ve had to be so ruthless with what we kept and what we either sold or left for house clearance people to take. Neither my brother or I have the space for a lot of the things we would have liked to keep. Friends of my mum’s have taken some things and I know mum would have been really pleased about that. Anyway, here’s some photos of her beautiful garden:

Good luck with the move when it happens, been a tough year for you.. Wow at that garden, no wonder is was so tough for you to let go.
I am reading the Time Travellers Wife, one I picked up in a charity shop, then heard and saw the ads for it as a film.. loving the book and hope the film lives up to it.
Les Mis is an awesome musical and so was the book.
Congrats on your first anniversary and have fun at the zoo.
Take care and luv n hugs to all xxx
Did Panda come back?
well, I can’t say I blame you one jot for wanting to move. I agree that England is changing and it’s such a shame. The past few days I feel as if I’ve been living in the Crime Hotspot of the country. Friday’s drama wouldn’t have made it to the news, but the goings on yesterday did. What scares me most is it’s right around here.
Thugs today just don’t seem to care about anyone but themselves.
You have had more than your fair share of trauma this year. I think a fresh start is a superb idea.
Time I was off. Started to leave this comment about 20 minutes ago when the rotten laptop decided to do some update and shut me down grrr!
Your mums garden was certainly gorgeous.
xxxx
Oh Nikki, I’m so delighted to read you again !
Thanks so much for stopping by my diary, it was such a neat surprise. Yes, we have moved, it was planned since the first day we had moved to Chessy. Now we’re in Montpellier, rather close to our parents. We moved on July 01st. So I feel for you about the move & all the work it gives.
You had such a terrible year, my heart still aches so much for you. Selling your parents’ house was probably a tough thing to do, but the best solution I suppose.
I hope you’re doing fine, happy anniversary to you & Dave, have a superb time in London !
Much love your way ! oxoxox
forgot to mention BB! Yes, am still watching it (when it’s on at 9). Hate that Lisa thing. I wish she would go. Feel the same about Charlie, he annoys me. Mucas cracks me up, he’s such a moron! I like Dimwit, but wish he wouldn’t follow Bea around like a lovesick puppy. She’s vile. And what about her comment about the Queen ‘her husband is dead, that’s why there is no king’!!!!!!??????????? eh? What about her husband of however many years, good old Prince Phillip?! I can’t stand know it alls like that who spout rubbish thinking they’re right when the know jack shite about anything. And as for her claim that she’s got every copy of Vogue since 1974 so knows about fashion. Yep, course she does! She’s a good 13 years younger than me, so quite how SHE has managed to collect all those back isssue is quite the mystery, and if she knows about fashion, what’s wrong with dressing in it? She annoys me. Thinks she’s very superior to everyone else, when she’s totally full of it and is being very Noreenish with her treatment of Siavash and Mucus and Dimwit.
I like Roddy but he’s a bit highly strung, although I was angry on his behalf about the swimming pool water on his bed thing. Idiots. That stupid bloke makes me laugh, just wish he’d get away from vile lisa. Another one who thinks she’s all knowing. They really have managed to get a box full of losers in there this time. Sophie to win, she makes me laugh.
time to go and brush my teeth so I can enjoy BB and not worry if I fall asleep halfway through (do that quite a lot!)

Hi Nikki, glad to have some news from you. Terrible that you were burgled, my neighbor was too last week that got me thinking about moving also. What a lovely garden and I do love the pic with the kitty in it, so sweet. I am anxious to see The Time Traveller’s Wife since it is one of my favorite books also (I think you already knew that) Hubby has already said he didn’t want to see it, so I will wait for the dvd. Hope you have a lovely Anniversary celebration in London it sounds wonderful. *hugs*
well, I still don’t like Bea. In fact am starting to get so sick and tired of her that I want to break into the house just so I can kick her and lisa over the wall!
Her constant whinging drives me mad, and yes, while Dimwit is seriously annoying, at least he tries to look on the bright side. Whereas Madame Bea just whinges and whines ALL the time. She always wants her own way, she thinks she knows everything and her eyes are far too close together
Hope you are having a good week. Sorry about Panda, that’s such a shame
plush in Kensington? Tip a tenner. Seems steep I know, but you’ll get good service and just think if the recession is hitting us hard, the waiters/waitresses/porters must find their tips drying up.
If they aren’t nice people, tip a fiver.
But yes, do tip.
Little one is still in nappies, but, each afternoon before and after bath time she wants potty time. I consider that I’m not potty training, she’s teaching herself. I give her no pressure and no hassle. She did a corking poo earlier on and was so proud (she wanted a very early bath today, seems to be her ‘thing’ this week!) I love this age too. Sometimes I say ’shall we do this/that/whatever’ and the response is usually ‘that’s a good idea’!
Love her!

Hello Nikki, how special to find your entry. Wonderful idea to move. It’s going to be so much easier after your burglary. It’s very nice to change life, meet new friends & more. Your weekend in London sounds so great, I’m sure Dave will love Les Mis. The time traveler’s wife is also one of my favorite books & I’m looking forward to see the movie. I can’t believe it’s your one year anniversary already. Best wishes for everything, it’s good to read you again, big hugs
And after all that, I forgot to say Happy Anniversary and enjoy your weekend. Had I been more organised I’d have got a card in the post!
I was also going to say earlier that when I saw Les Mis (years ago now), a bloke who reminded me of one of the geezers from New Tricks was in it, singing one of my fave songs from the show ~ ‘Master of the house’. Fantastic! Anyway. Did a quick search, and you could knock me down with a feather as I was right! It was him (Alun Armstrong)! He was brilliant in the part. He’s one of my fave tv actorrrrrs, and shares his bd with my dad, so I’m stupidly chuffed with that!

Anyway. On that note I am off. Have a lovely lovely time in London tahhhhhn, blow it a kiss from me and tell it I’ll be there again in the not too distant future. I hope! xxxx
Hi Nikki.
How nice to find your comment in my blog, it’s great to see you online again.
But oh my, it’s terrible with the burglary, I get goose skin on my arms just by reading about it.
And so sorry to hear your husband having the dialysis for his kidneys, I know how hard that is since my granddaugther’s young mom had it. Sadly she died in traffic just after having a kidney transplant, just when life started to work out well for her. Life can sure be hard.
Happy wedding anniversary to you and your hubby, may your day be special and very lovely.
Hugs,
Annette
Ciao!!! How nice to find your comment, Nikki, welcome back online!
Wow, I didn’t know you were planning to move to Dorset. But leave near Dave’s daughter and grandchildren is going to be so nice, for sure!
It sure has been a tough year for you, Nikki.
Hope you and Dave had a blast in London!
So glad you are starting to feel more like you old self again, Nikki!
Gosh, you have been burgled? How awful!
Bet let think nice. I am anxious to see The Time Traveller’s Wife since I am still waiting to read the book but everyone told me it is great!
