lovely day

Happy Mother’s Day to my mum and all my UK friends, hope you get to do things you want to do and get spoiled rotten! After a busy week which included an earthquake of all things, very readily felt here as we live only 60 miles from the epicentre, the weekend was most welcome! Yesterday we went shopping for all sorts of things but it was one of those days when you just can’t find exactly what you want. No problem with finding presents for my Mum though as she likes the same things as me. I bought her Coco Mademoiselle soap as she’s always looking for fragranced soaps as they’re so few and far between these days. Plus a gorgeous Queen’s china mug with a Sanderson’s William Morris print on it, see below (had to swipe pic off website as didn’t have time to take photo). Couldn’t resist treating myself to a couple of little decorative items as well :) Everything was bought from John Lewis….what a shop! There’s a hanging, bouncing ladybug which I’ll have at school plus a lovely tin rabbit which will sit on my window sill. Both together cost me less than £8! The other photo is of Charley with her brother Bertie who we’ve been looking after for the weekend.

Today is a day I’ve been half looking forward to and half losing sleep over. Reason being that my son Tom was driving up here for the first time since he bought a car. It’s a 60 mile run, mostly on the A1 and then on a very busy, single carriageway to here. Luckily he arrived around the time that I was expecting him to leave home so I didn’t have to worry too much then, but right now I know he’s on his way home after visiting some old friends and it’s getting dark :(   I think this is the biggest and scariest milestone I’ve encountered so far. I know I’m being silly and that at his age he certainly knows what he’s doing BUT it doesn’t stop me worrying! Anyway, we had a wonderful day. He arrived early enough for us to have some quality time together. He bought me My Booky Wook by Russell Brand which I’ve been wanting for ages. I baked him his favourite coffee cake to take home with him. Isn’t that just the loveliest thing that mums can do when their kids have left home?! My mum arrived and I gave her her pressies, which she loved, and then Dave cooked a superb lunch….roast beef, yorkshire pud, roast and mashed potatoes, cabbage, carrots and green beans plus yummy gravy. and then sticky toffee pudding and custard (shop bought!). Giant yums all round!

Tomorrow I’m taking the children to the town library where they’ll be allowed to borrow a book each and will also have a story read to them. We’re going by coach as it’s too far for little legs (and there’s some tricky roads to cross too). The coach is bound to be the highlight of the journey for them as it always is :)

oooh, what a scrumptious mother’s day! I LOVE the sound of your dinner. Dave is like me, I often do two types of spud. I think it’s lovely to have loads of veg options! ;)
I would worry just like you over Tom, especially over night driving. I once had a driving lesson in the evening, when it was just starting to get dark. Never been so scared in my life, when I got out of that car I was dripping with sweat. I really don’t know how people can happily drive about. I’m glad Tom is a confident driver though.
enjoyed all the piccies of goodies. That cup is gorgeous. And ooohh to the scented soap. I agree, it’s getting harder to find scented soap in fine fragrances, though Chanel and Dior are both good for it. Calvin Klein used to sell it too, but I doubt if they do anymore. Not ‘fashionable’ is it?

I had a lovely Mother’s Day too. Just pottering about, looking after my little sniffly girly and doing nothing in particular. Bill and I had a bit of a disagreement over MD this year. He wanted his mum to stay over on saturday night. It was hard to say no, because I know he worries about his mum and I really do understand that, but I said that I wanted to enjoy MD, and not have to play hostess to his ma, and get the room ready, get the house ready, do tons of cooking (as she would have stayed for ages on the Sunday too). At times he really can’t see past doing nice things for his mum, when it’s me who will end up doing all the work. I pointed out (quite loudly) that I was a mother too, and deserved to put my feet up , not do more work than ever!
thanks for the early morning visit! :) Time I was off. Have a good day. stay warm!

evening! :em70: thanks for stopping by. :) and for the compliments regarding both hat and humbug! She’s being an utter pain now though, and refuses to try on the hat. While I was making it, and it was oozing glue and had the cotton hanging down with a needle on the end, she was keen as mustard to try it on! Now it’s all finished (well, not quite. have not had time to sew on the flowers yet, but they are tucked in the net so don’t move),she won’t let me put it on her!

hope your week is chugging along nicely. gorgeous day today wasn’t it? xxxxx

Hi Nikki! I’m glad you had such a lovely Mothering Sunday :) Dave sounds like a super cook :) (Steve would go the out for dinner route!)

I agree with you about the worry over people driving at night…I can’t imagine what a mess I’m going to be when the boys get old enough to drive! Even now I stress a bit over Steve if he’s driving a long way at night….especially here with so much rain it can be particularly treacherous at night.

So interesting regarding your comment about the conjunctivitis….here it is generally accepted practice that Bacterial C is highly contagious so no going to school until it has been under antibiotic treatment for 24 hours. However, viral C is not worried about so much. I think it has to do with the amount of discharge related to it. Less discharge means less wiping with hands and therefore less chance or transmission. Our school doesn’t have a set policy about it so I just went by what the GP said. So hard for you when you have doctors and school policy at odds though!
Off now…must have a cuppa and a snack (always hungry!) Hope all is well with you :)

    Hi Nikki,
I check your site frequently. This is the first time I’ve left a message. I have kidney failure and am on hemo dialysis so I’m always interested to see how Dave is doing. I also checked your IBD site all the time and I may have posted there a few times over the past few years. I’m now wondering how Nova’s husband is doing. Do you hear from her? She has no idea who I am but I pray for her all the time, hoping against hope that all is going okay for her.

This site is so cute. I love all the graphics you use. I hope Dave is doing good today – and you too!

    Take care,
    Pat (aka Gramapat)

Hi Nikki Just whizzing by the say hello – you sound as though you had a fabulous Mothering Sunday, that Roast Dinner sounds the business. I never do mashed and roast pots but I can remember years ago a friend from Manchester who always did that and I used to love it! It’s all about the textures for me :) Hope Tom had a safe journey home. Conrad is taking driving lessons (apparently doing rather well unfortuately!) and I’m not happy at the thought of him and Holly tootling round London in a car – eek! What fun to take the children to the library, I hope it was a fun experience. Our library used to have story reading once a week and we always went when Holly was small. How nice for Charely to have her sibling to sleep over :) Lots of love xxx

Hello my friend ! Thanks so much for stopping by yesterday. I hope you’re having a nice week so far. With Easter & spring around the corner, I bet you’re super busy at school. I hope your weather is better than the last days, it’s been so stormy the last days over here & I guess it was far far worse by your corner of the world. I hope you managed to stay safe. I wish you a safe 2nd half of the week. Sending you big hugs OXOXO PS : I hope you & Dave are currently doing fine.
