out and about
It had been a while since I’d walked the streets of London so it was with excitement and a little trepidation that we set off on our anniversary weekend. I needn’t have worried, everything was mostly how I’d left it
with a few changes here and there. On arrival (by train) we easily found our hotel aided by the brilliant apps on my iPhone including a sat nav! The room and the hotel were as plush and posh as we’d hoped and in the lovely area of South Kensington. A quick drink and we were ready to explore but as it was a Friday afternoon we decided not to venture onto the very hot and even busier tube trains and caught one of the frequent buses just outside the hotel. I’ve always preferred travelling by bus in London, you see so much more and anyway, I’ve never been keen on the underground…..not good for someone who has a tendency to claustrophobia!
As Dave had never been to Harrods and as we were very close, that’s where we went. We only saw a fraction of of the departments but we chose probably the most spectacular…the food halls (of course!) and the luxury gift rooms. My eyes were on stalks looking at the Cartier, Tiffany, De Beers etc jewels and Dave’s were on stalks looking at the astonishing array of fish in the errrrrrr fish department (was trying to think of another word for that!). Here’s a few pics: the hotel, a Chanel window display at Harrods, a sumptuous Marc Jacobs bag and one of the food halls.

Unfortunately we didn’t get time to see more as we needed to get back to the hotel to get ready for our theatre trip. Have to admit to a little apprehension at this point as, after building up the show we were going to see for the last nine years, and finally getting Dave to agree to go, the moment was soon to arrive…..would he fall in love with Les Miserables just as I did 20 years ago????
More to follow…… ![]()

Oh, Nikki! What a wonderful post. I am so happy to see you both doing so well. I have been having computer problems from hell
but finally broke down and bought my very first personal computer. We’re still having network problems off and on and right now I can’t get into my own site LOL but expect to fix that soon. All is well in spite of these little irritations. Had a wonderful trip to Nevada and California to see best brother and other lovely family visits over the summer. Love, Julia
Hello Nikki, glad you had a lovely time. I don’t like shopping so much, BUT I loved Harrods!
Well, I was 15 y/o, so it’s been so long that things might have changed, but I’d like to go back. Very neat pics, btw. Happy day!
Too right, you can’t mooch around Kensington and NOT go to Harrods! It’s against the law!
Ah London Tahhhn, how I love it. I like to travel around by black cab, but it is a bit pricey, so it tends to be black cab to get back to Liverpool Street and tube from the start. I’m not a fan of the tube. Love the idea but yikes the heat. EVen in the middle of winter it’s stifling down there. And lets not even talk about the ‘blowing your nose after being travelling by tube for a few hours’. Yikes!!!
Glad you had a great time. Apologies again, had I been more organised I would have sent you a card. Congratulations on your first anniversary, can’t believe a year has gone by so quickly!

forgot to say, fab photies!
your plumbing woes go from bad to worse! I’m glad you cancelled the cheque for the previous bunch of bandits. And good for you for reporting them. That’s where you needed the geezer from Rogue Traders stashed behind the sofa!
Hope you and Dave can enjoy what’s left of his hols, and get ahhht and abahht!
Get Bea Out! Get Bea Out! Vile creature!

I fell asleep on Friday, so missed half of BB and didn’t bother to stay up for eviction – no point, I’d have fallen asleep again!
Delighted that Vile Bea has been booted, and just as delighted that the three gave her such a hard time post eviction. She’s so stupid to have sat there pretending to be totally innocent, and seems I’m not alone in noticing she ‘cries’ with no tears!!!!!! I was laughing at all the boos, shame the others couldn’t hear them!
Glad you had a good shop, you lucky thing. we’re off to the boring beach this p.m. Great!!!

failed to say that I got to see the repeat yesterday, that’s why I knew she had a hard time post eviction

wow, you might have had over 6 weeks hols but it seems to have gone so fast! It’s a worry though, the swine flu thing hs gone quiet, but with the kids back at school it will soon be back with a vengenance.
looking for sea glass is addictive! It’s ridiculous how excited you can get when you come across a piece, and considering that it’s just bits of beer bottles and whatnot, that’s pretty stupid! It is fun though, more fun than finding shells.
My letters are from Dunelm too! I shared that bit of info on CR on Saturday.
I had a brochure from Graham & Green on Sat. which on the back had individual letters for sale (around £8 each), which makes the Dunelm ones such a superb bargain. I might do as someone on CR suggested, and hunt down some MDF ones on ebay, so I can paint them myself. I’d like to spell out Magoos name, it would cost too much to do that via G&G! http://www.grahamandgreen.co.uk/category.aspx/silver+gilded+letters/homedecoraccents/homedecoraccents_gildedletters/silver_gilded_letters
Time I was off. Have been hoovering and tidying up, after yesterday the house seemed to feel a bit sandy! Hope your plumbing woes are a bad memory now
have a fab Monday. xxxx
I expected one person to tell me it was wishful thinking looking at the yellowing leaves (hence the admission that it’s more than likely down to the heat we’ve had recently, just to let people know I’m not entirely thick, or wishing time away or anything else I get made to feel) but the last person I expected it to be was you! You’ve let me down!!!!!!!! I am also going to point out that I’ve been asked to share every early autumn detail for those suffering horrible heat, and I’ve hardly mentioned craving colder weather. Can’t win!!!!!
Tiling bloke is a twit, which is why I’m not in the mood for joking today. seriously. he’s a sexist moron going through a divorce and has wound me up. All I can say is I understand why his wife wants to leave him. Total git. He’s gone away for a couple of hours to let the tiles go off, and hoo bleedin’ ray, I’m glad he’s not here. We were going to get my dad in to do it,but his knees are in such bad shape after a lifetime in the building trade, I could not let him have a day of pain just to save us some ££££’s.
I’m just glad Bill is here today, he has realised how tricky it would be to cope with with a cat and a toddler and an open front door, and the blokes attitude. Total moron.
Off to slam a few doors now!
