:: news we’ve been waiting for ::

About ten weeks ago, Dave and I went into hospital to have a series of blood tests. These were done to find out if I might be able to donate a kidney to him. He has Polycystic Kidney Disease, passed down by his father who died at the age of 50 from it. Dave’s brother and sister also have PKD. Both of his kidneys are now failing and current function is at around 15%.

Anyway, we found out a few weeks later that I was not a match. However, today, we were thrilled to hear that from September, so called “stranger donations” of kidneys are to be allowed for the first time. Up until now, kidney transplants from living donors can take place only between those who are genetically or emotionally related, such as a husband and wife. As Dave is only 49 and in every other respect, very fit, we are hoping that he will actually receive a new kidney before the need for dialysis. Wish us luck!

Wonderful weather as well, today. I’ve been able to have children playing outside the classroom for the first time this year, they always love that! Quite a large part of the Foundation Stage curriculum has to be done outside now. We’re all really hoping that this good weather is here to stay now :)

  3. Aww thanks for the compliment. Yeah the header I have widened to the 760 pixels, and it works.

Oh and thanks for the heads up on the siggy. I was just over there earlier, it is Ronnies Birthday today. I’ll take a look-see, I didn’t see the siggy yesterday when I was perusing.

I personally am not against seeing the movie. And I have no dislike over money being made, I see it as Hollywoods way “placing” the events of that day. Many other avenues have been paved by others their own way. A movie is Hollywoods way.

I think my history is pretty kewl! :P I have thanked God many times for this.

I personally have not done my Family History, but my Aunt June had, which is how I was able to make the Mayflower reference. So in turn I actually can join the Mayflower Society! I need to “get on the ball” huh?

There’s two online family tree systems ya know? http://www.genealogy.com and http://www.ancestry.com . I have considered going in there, but I know there is a small cost, and then of course the effort! lol So I might save this till my elder-elder years, ya know?

You are like so funny when you say it “peters out”, I’m like so uh noone exisited before then?? Yeah you just have to get working on the info. Which is so grand that your mom is doing so.

Now you got me pondering if we could be related? That’d be kewl huh?

The two web sites above work intercollectively, once you get your base info in it, it systematically hooks you to up to any other possible entrys.

Even if you weren’t the one who enter that info!

    Catch ya later

  4. Oh, Nikki, this is wonderful news. So hopeful. I will keep you both in my prayers for this to come true. I really admire your courage in offering a kidney to your loved one.

About the Widgets, it’s still a maybe. It will take a good while for me to get them all to “look” the same, as they are made by different people, and I guess I’m anal about that sort of thing. Still, it’s a fun idea.

I confess to eavesdropping on your other comments today. They really are fun to read, hee hee. Oh, well, they are “published” aren’t they? I must snoop some of these things out they mention.

Glad to hear you’re having nice weather. We’ve had two days of rain, a good thing, and are enjoying the last remnants of coolness before the May heat. I love rain – within reason, of course.

I looked up your Mabel Atwell and was enchanted. I bookmarked and will return for more. I’ll go first and say my favorite illustrator is Arthur Rackham. Oh, to be able to create these lovely things.

Here’s to a wonderful rest of week and weekend to be.
