I have had crohns disease since 1986.  I have crohns in a very unusual place, there is no disease in the terminal ileum, I only have disease in the duodenum and the proximal jejunum.  Because of this it took three years to make a diagnosis.  I have been on almost every drug for crohns but for the past 4 years I have been on arava (much like methotrexate), Remicade, pentasa and I have been on steriods for 12 years and unfortunately can't ever get off of them because they have caused adrenal insuffiency.

I have had 4 back surgeries, the last being 6 weeks ago, where they did a 3 level spinal fusion and inserted a lot of instrumentation to correct the damage done (a collapse of my vertebrae) by mostly the arthritis caused by the crohns disease and the prolonged steriod use. My crohns is usually under control thanks to Remicade infusions but because of the surgery I have had to postpone the Remicade for another few months.

I have been a Registered Nurse for 27 years.  I have worked in the ER , in the OR and for the past 12 years I have run a busy endoscopy unit where I can help others who have similar diseases as I have.  I have enjoyed GI nursing so much that I have become certified in GI nursing.  Unfortunately, I will have to stop working as my doctors wont allow me to return to work because they feel that if i do it will cause further damage to my back!!  My husband Bobby, is a psychologist.

We have 2 cats, Gabby and Orange, Orange we just adopted off the street since he adopted our front porch a few months ago , we figured he needed to be an inside cat and not an outdoor cat who would get injured in the street.
