Two days back and I’m exhausted! Sometimes I think I’m getting too old for this game…. five year olds are soooooo full of energy! No, I actually think I’ll still be doing this job when I’m a pensioner as I’d miss the littlies too much otherwise. They certainly keep me young….
Yesterday was a nice ease back into work with no children around. We spent most of the day chatting, eating and a somewhat leisurely prep of the classroom. My teaching assistant had been to New York and Toronto for Easter, so had lots of photos and tales to share. And today she was happy to talk to the children about some of the differences she’d spotted, particularly in New York. One thing that the children were particularly fascinated by was the photo of a yellow school bus. They were amazed to hear that children as young as they are, are put on the buses on their own and taken to school! Another talking point was how Mrs Johnson’s postcard had got all the way from New York to our classroom. Lots of ideas …..most popular being a postman on his bike!
This term our home corner has been turned into a vets, much to the excitement of the children. There’s nothing small children love more than pets! So the vets is always very popular. We have a very unusual animal in the surgery at the moment……an orphaned panda! I had to stretch the realms of credibility hugely for this one! Reason being I was anxious to include the little ‘newborn’ panda toy I’d bought at Christmas. He yawns, gurgles and snores while opening and closing his eyes. And if you rub his tummy his limbs will move up and down. So I’ve explained to the children that a panda is not the normal sort of animal to be found at a vets in the UK but that we’re ‘just pretending’!

Yeah Nikki I am close to the coast, you can check it out on my Frapper group [http://www.frappr.com/nancysfrappr] I am over in California on the West Coast of the U.S.A., it’s where I was born.
Kudos!
That is so nice of you to help with a pic. I will be soon in a situation though with one of Mables Makings banners as it is not as wide as the 700+ pixels that are neccesary. As I’ll be changing over to her web set “Summer Digs” soon.
How fun to recieve post cards. Postman on a bike does sound nostalgic!
You are keen to stretch the idea of a Panda at a vet. Truely it seems to give a child a global imagination even when you do lil’ Panda substitution. Some might take that forever in their lives your lil Panda affair
Love spending time at your place here! Will be thinking of you. Hugzzz
Hi Nikki! That is really cute about the panda…they are one of my favorite animals. We got to see the real thing at the San Diego Zoo several years ago. They were two visiting pandas from China…just adorable! LOL @ the yellow school bus. I rode one myself when I was five years old. The first time I rode the bus, it flew by my house, instead of dropping me off. My dad was at home waiting for me and thought the driver somehow forgot to let me off, so he jumped in his truck and chased down the bus. I can still remember looking out the window and seeing my dad racing alongside…lol! Turns out the bus would go by my house twice…and the second time he would let me off! How silly is that??
My mom’s kidney failure was caused by high blood pressure. It’s amazing how much damage high blood pressure can do…she has a variety of health problems because of it.
On a brighter note, have a lovely week and enjoy your five year olds…I agree they keep us young!
Oh, I will have to check out Lipstick Jungle. I definitely fall under the category of “Still Pining for SATC”!
*HUGS*
Hi, Nikki! Your class sounds like so much fun. I really think kindergarten teachers can turn kids on for the rest of their school careers. I’m sure it takes incredible energy, though.
I’m not sure it’s a good idea that such young children are riding alone. I didn’t realize they weren’t allowed to do so in the UK, a good thing I’m sure.
Hope you are doing okay, just busy. I’ll be going back to the most stressful month for a high school teacher, but summer will not be far away. (We end our term at the end of May here.) I always check your weather when I visit. Sounds so lovely, cozy, and chilly. Are you a tea drinker?
Silly, but I must correct myself. I started using Movable Type in 2003, so that’s three years. Sadly, I still don’t know what I’m doing when it comes to coding, just copying and pasting away.
At least you are enjoying it, and that is what matters, Nikki! I can’t believe the hols are nearly over, time flies! My daughter is in Spain at the moment and last year she was working in a private school for really rich Spanish kids whose parents wanted them bilingual! My daughter’s kids- 16 in all with one Spanish assistant were aged 2 to 3. And you know some of these kids were put on the bus in the morning at 8.00 for a one and a half hour drive to the school, and same journey back in the afternoon at 4:00PM. And my daughter did not even speak any Spanish at the time! I can’t get my head around the fact that some parents can send their kids to school at such a young age for a whole day stuck with somebody who does not even speak Spanish!
Which year group do you teach Nikki?
Have a great weekend.
Hey babe thanks for visiting.
Sure had an emotional [good stuff] kinda day yesterday. I love life that I can have such feelings, and especially have people in our lives where we have that with.
Where we are right now is about 15 miles from beach. A wide choice of beaches too, you know like if you wanna catch waves, or lap like a child at the shore, some with awesome views [tan bodies
or landscapes]. But then that is the Southern California lure.
The pic rotation on that post was when we lived in the middle of the Pacific Ocean on an island called Maui. There we lived less than a kilometer from the water. It’s kewl to have water near, it’s not the end-all, but I think it does effect our psyche. Besides what we get when we are sitting along it’s edge and lost in thought, ya know?
It’s the weekend and I hope you have a good recovery day for next weeks beginnings. You take care O.K.?
