I had a reminder today why I never plan out my day beforehand! We’d planned that Dave would go and have his eyes tested and then go fishing or shooting for the day. I was going to spend the day report writing. We’d also booked a service on our gas boiler and heater. Well, the gasman cometh and after much fiddling about and sighing etc, declared our backup gas fire a health hazard and wrote it off instantly! It appears the seals have gone and for the last goodness knows how long it’s been kicking out dangerous fumes
. We use the fire when we just want to take the chill off the living room but don’t need the central heating on. It’s also used on freezing cold days when the central heating isn’t enough. It’s certainly given us a scare to think that we’ve been breathing in those fumes for the last few months!
Then Dave came home to tell me his optician thought he may have another detached retina (he’s had two in the past). We had to go back while the optician made a call to the nearest opthamology unit which is 15 miles away. As we suspected, they wanted us over there asap. So off we went and were finally seen just after 4pm only to be told that everything was fine! The opthamologist informed us that opticians are getting rather over zealous in their diagnoses of possible detached retinas. Better to be safe than sorry though. An undiagnosed detached retina can result in loss of sight. Much relief on our part anyway as it would involve surgery at a hospital 50 miles away plus at least a 4 day stay and then a few weeks off work.
So nothing done as planned……now that’s why I always live from day to day
.

Awww … sweetie, I am so sorry your day didn’t happen like you had planned. But I am relieved to read that, in the end, Dave’s eyes are OK. I’ve been myop (short sighted) since the age of 14 & I have a monocular sight since I had surgery on my eyes when I was 3 & 1/2. So tell me about eye problems … I had to see my ophtalmologyst before giving birth because myopic mamas can have detached retina when pushing to deliver babies … *nice*
Working with you on all these Minimes was a honor, a pleasure, a great experience, and sure, lots of fun, so thank YOU sooooo much !!!
I am so sorry about the gas fire problem. I do hope you didn’t get exposed to something dangerous for your lives.
I hope you & Dave relax now, as I am typing this, because you surely both deserve it !
Do take care, sweet friend.
I am so glad that you liked the lastest Minimes …
OXOXOXOXOXOX
PS : don’t worry about the post, anyway we won’t be here from next Wednesday to next Saturday.

Hi sweetie, Just dropping by to wish you the lovely weekend! Hope it’s a wonderful one!
.
Sorry about the bad day, this happens to me too
Big hugs and take care!
I’m glad Dave’s eye was okay!
I didn’t realize a fireplace could throw out fumes that were dangerous! We use ours all the time during the winter!
Take care of yourself,
Love,
Nova
I am pleased for both of you that Dave’s eye was OK. I had a bit of a fright too last time when I went (I am short-sighted) because the girl who was testing me looked and looked and then called somebody else to look! And you know when that happens, there is something wrong! Anyway I thought I must ask..turns out the first one was newly qualified and could see something on my retina so wanted the opinion of a more experienced person. I had to explain that as a child my retina had indeed got a tiny bit unstuck and she then said: Oh yeah, we can see that!
Do you know I have been short-sighted all my life and never before has anybody questioned me about this..so I believe like you wrote, they are becoming more aware of long-term damage caused by detached retina.
Did you have a good half-term? Saw you had to spend some time doing reports..I’ll have two sets to do too when I go back. We do them online now, it is all computerized, which is much nicer and we are even going to have a comment bank, if we want to use them. I am not sure, yet. Sometimes I prefer to write in my own words.
I see you have again changed the look of your site! It’s very pretty and summery all these flowers!
Have a great weekend, Nikki.
