Current Mood:
doing the weekly shop &
Tired
Went back to work yesterday straight into the thick of it. Teaching isn’t what it was, so many new rules and regulations, all of them down to the ’sue them and get compensation’ culture which now rules our daily lives. Just in the week I’ve been off, we have two new sets of guidelines…one which means that anyone who hasn’t had First Aid training is not allowed to touch a child who has an accident no matter how minor it is. So if a child falls in the playground and has a graze, we’re not allowed to deal with it as we used to, only a trained first aider. The other new ruling is that teachers (and any other adult who helps) has to take off rings, earrings etc etc when doing PE, just in case we catch a child and accidentally hurt them. I’ve been teaching for nearly 20 years and it’s totally unbelievable how much things have changed. We’re not supposed to hug a child either! (That’s one I’ve never conformed to as I teach little ones who need a hug now and then and are always coming up to me and giving me a hug!).
Much as I love my job, I really do feel that the way things are going I could easily give it up. I never thought I’d say that.
On a happier note, Dave’s new dialysis regimen is working really well. He’s feeling much better, more energised, less tired and his hernia has stopped causing problems now that he’s not carrying any extra fluid around all day. He’s a different person! The machine, which initially was keeping us awake, quietens down after about an hour so we’re managing to work around that by going to bed earlier and either watching tv for that hour or reading. The pluses most definitely outweigh the minuses! Once the overnight dialysis has been done, Dave is then free from it for the rest of the day.

I don’t like the way things are going either. I see a lot of ads on tv for compensation claims. the latest is if your child has been hurt outside the home, no matter how long ago it was.
anyway.
Oh well, no point crying over crushed cake!
I just hope I can come up with something half way decent by Sunday.
I hear what you are saying about the delivery of the cake, but she runs her business the way she runs it. She’s never had any trouble with UPS before, which is why she thought all would be fine. I was just unlucky.
I’m pleased Dave is doing much better. Hurrah!
have a lovely evening. I am enjoying the finals of Master chef. Do you watch it?
lots of love xxxx
Hi Nikki, we are happy Dave is doing much better! Enjoy spring! Greetings from Italy!
Hi Nikki,
Only me again! Don’t see me for months, and then twice in one night!
I can totally relate to the rules and regulations thing. As I said earlier I’ve recently registered as a childminder and you have not idea how difficult it has been! Basically, to look after little ones I’m going to (in the not too distant future) have to have an NVQ 3 in childcare. Yes, crazy, I know.
My kitchen is like a nursery with all the policies, fire procedures, artwork (which I love doing anyway) and multicultural posters. If I don’t show all this I would not pass my Ofsted inspection, regardless of my ability as a chldminder. I managed to get a ‘good’ grade with and ‘outstanding’ in helping children to achieve, which I’m delighted about – but boy was it hard work, and still is… So I can only imagine what it must be like for you. The goal posts change every couple of months and you never know if you’re coming or going!
Anyway, glad to hear in more detail about Dave’s treatment – I had no idea what it involed! I’ll stop moaning now that I see what you have to do every day!
Are you taking part in the NACC walk this year? I missed last year’s, but would like to try for this one.
Speak to you soon.

HI, Nikki, this is great news about Dave. Your AIDS post was so touching. It seems surreal most of the time, but sometimes a picture of a human face really does speak volumes. We are at Matt and Ashley’s right now. They have gone out for yogurt and to return some library things. She enters the hospital at 7:00 tonight and will be induced in the morning. They’ll see how that goes but may have to do a C-Section. By this time tomorrow I’ll be a grandmother! I need a cute little British grandmother name – any suggestions?
