rain, rain, go away…..

….come back another day (like in the Autumn please!) Our little island has been lashed by rain and strong winds for days now although today we did have some temporary respite. Towns flooded, mass evacuations, closed motorways, cancelled trains, more flood warnings…..oh the joys of a British ‘summer’! Having said that, we’ve been lucky, so far, in Cambridgeshire and have escaped the extremes of the weather. But sports day has been called off for tomorrow and I’m not sure whether we’ll be able to reorganise it as most days are busy from now and until the end of term (July 20th). It’s a shame for the children who spend many weeks practising for it.

Yesterday was our ‘New to Reception’ meeting when I met many of the new children I’ll be having in September, along with their parents. There’s a high percentage of special needs this year but no extra money to help them overcome their difficulties. It’s an absolute scandal how few resources are being provided for the increasing number of children with autism, ADHD, aspergers, speech and language problems etc. A child with any of those problems would have, a few years ago, been given a Statement enabling the school to employ a learning support assistant. Not now. It’s very, very difficult these days to qualify for a Statement as the government are not providing the funds to employ extra staff. This has a huge impact on the classroom.

Am going to sign off now as I have a humdinger of a headache (I think it’s the weather!). Remedies for headaches welcome as the only thing that works for me is aspirin which is seriously bad for my tummy :(

We have had a dry day!!! after yesterday and the last weeks a welcome thing.. the pics on the news are scary to see and deaths too.. so sad.

That is so wrong schools don’t get the help needed to help those kids that so badly need it..

For headaches have you tried lavender, if you search lavender for headaches lots of things come up..

Hope that helps and your headache goes away soon.
    Gentle hugs Pixie

Hi Nikki Sorry about your headache. Asprin is harsh on the stomach, that’s a shame it’s the only thing that works for you. There is that 4head stick which is a sort of mentholated thing you apply directly to the forehead but it’s horribly expensive at about £5.99. I always used to inhale from a little phial of Tiger Balm oil and I used to find that helped. You can get the TigerBalm Salve in Boots which may have the same result but it is a similar price to the 4head (I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a similar formulation too). Other than that I can only think of a cup of tea and a lie down in a darkened room. It must be frustrating that you haven’t got the resources to cope, especially when your children’s needs next year will stretch you. I’m guessing that Mums can’t help in the classroom either because of red tape. We have been dry today but I have been horrified at the stories from Sheffield and Rotherham – it doesn’t seem possible. Hope you’re feeling better love xxxx

poor little kids, that is shame. No, I’m not fed up with the rain, just a bit surprised that we haven’t had some sunshine. I remember this time last year was boiling. I will never forget it actually,’cos I was breastfeeding humbug for what felt like the entire day and it was so uncomfortably hot doing so. Just watching ‘Enders and seeing Dawn with baby Summer brought it all back actually. she has said two things that I remember saying, one of which being that it felt like being in prison, and what was the other thing? —thinking— oh yes, sore boobs!
I’m sure we’ll get sunshine soon, and then I won’t stop griping about it!!!
Anticaption ~ what a great word! I will have to remember it!

Hope that headache lifts soon. :( No fun at all.

    xxxxxxx

Don’t you wish it was like a rule to ONLY rain after midnight or something, so we didn’t have to deal with it during the waking hours? I know I do! Hope you have a great day! Lotsa hugs!

Hi Nikki Just spotted your comment. Do you mean the murder of Charlotte Church or was it Gavin being taken to market? I only watched the beginning of the programme – Once Gordon Ramsay takes his shirt off and dons his Cooks Whites I lose interest :) I saw the paper being made out of poo (Now there’s a project for your class :D ) and then I stopped watching it. Yes this Paris Hilton thing is a bit much isn’t it? I was in the car yesterday morning and after the news Sir Terry said “What, no news of Paris Hilton?” :D Hope your week is going well.
