school’s out for summer!

And PHEWWW, it couldn’t have come soon enough! The last week has been pretty awful. New heating system being installed through half the school so EVERYTHING had to be removed from all the rooms which were having pipes pulled out. Fortunately it wasn’t my classroom this year as it was done last summer but I had a huge cupboard to dismantle full of IT and Art equipment. The temperature has been in the 90′s all week with very high humidity and no a/c of course. The children haven’t known what to do with themselves and neither have the adults, lol! Work was out of the question so the days were spent watching a DVD first thing, playing games after that and then in the afternoons I took my class outside to sit under a huge tree where they read books, played with Lego etc, drew pictures and played more games. Now that WAS good! Bliss in fact!

So Friday finally rolled round and the children came in that morning bearing gifts aplenty, bless them. In a nutshell: flowers, chocolates, candles, jewellery and cuddly toys. My favourites are the cards though where the children write little notes and the mums express their gratitude and appreciation. Very nice indeed! A few tears at home time (from me!) but managed to hold on until they’d all left
So now I have six whole weeks ahead of me, wow! First few days are always the best as the holiday stretches into the far distance. Only ten days to our Italy adventure too, yikes, beginning to get nervous as I’ve organised it all on the internet. Hopefully it should be ok, I’ve done it many times before but there’s always that little niggling worry that a hotel isn’t expecting you etc! I’m also concerned about Dave’s health as he’s tiring so easily. I’m still not great but better than I was. On Wednesday we see his consultant so I have lots of questions to ask him regarding our holiday.

Last but not least, I have to mention my mum, my little brother and my three nieces Lucy, Fran and Chloe. We had a family lunch last Sunday and I was admonished for the fact that I never mention them in my blog! (They’ve not seen my 101!) So here goes: we had a lovely lunch prepared by my mum and sat out in her beautiful garden all afternoon. Neil and the girls were in fine fettle and a good time was had by all!

I am amazed that your temperature is about the same as ours. I saw on TV that Kew had a display of heat tolerant plants for those in need. The school thing is the pits; at least it’s the last week of school not the first. One year they tore our parking lot up so the buses couldn’t get through! I am so glad you enjoyed Dear Frankie, too. It’s so lovely. I read a Gerard Butler interview where someone asked what he thought about the ending, and he said they all get together in his opinion. Mine, too! So sweet about your mother; I rarely blog my family either – too personal maybe?

Its been too hot for comfort and it must have been so hard on the school kids.. here they were taking in AC units to cool the kids down..

    Have a great week
