Although it’s been raining occasionally, most of the day has been sunny and mild. The birds are singing and the daffodils, tulips and grape hyacinths are in full bloom in my garden. What a wonderful time of the year it is!
Had lunch with my mum today (thanks mum!) and then showed her how to use Publisher to make a secretarial job she has to do, much easier.
While browsing the internet this morning I happened upon this wonderful bit of advice found in a magazine article from the 1950′s called ’7 ways to charm a man’. Love it!
1. Your voice must be gentle and warm, then he’ll want to listen to your expressive tones. And you’ll know the value of a soft whisper, but – most important – you’ll know when not to talk.
2. Your laugh….that special little chuckle which is all your own….the toss of your head as you laugh at his jokes….across a crowded room, your secret smile which takes him into your heart.
3. Your hair….blowing freely in the wind, tempting him to run his fingers through….even the little bit that stands straight up and defies attempts to tidy it – it’s endearing and he’ll love it.
4. Your nose….because it’s shiny, although you bemoan the fact and try hard to make the powder stay on….the amusing, lovable way you wrinkle it up when something pleases you.
5. Your attention….because you are a good listener and take an interest in what he has to say, which makes him feel important, also the encouragement you give him when he feels unsure.
6. Your dress….it’s just right for all occasions and you never embarrass him by wearing outrageous styles, colors and trimmings that are fussy and conspicuous….and besides, you walk firmly, with upright, graceful carriage, in ridiculously feminine, high-heeled shoes.
7. Your eyes….because they are so expressive, sparkling with fun or flashing with anger….because they send him charming messages which only he can read, and because they are the windows into which he can look, and always be sure of finding the real You.

What a great day you had Nikki, I love the 1950s magazine advice, it’s pretty amazing
I need to plant flowers & herbs. Have a great weekend, hugs
hmmmm… to the 1950′s advice! Maybe they should have added ‘roll over and let him tickle your tummy from time to time’!
sounds like a gorgeous day with you mum.
am being quick, ‘cos we are off to Asda soon to do the weekly shop, and it gets manically busy so we need to be early.
Yes, it’s a grey and grumpy day here today too. But that’s ok, means I can guzzle tea and feel cosy!
have a fab day . enjoy your lie in! xxxxxx
Morning early bird
We had a gorgeous day yesterday, no rain and lots of sunshine, did lots of bits in the garden, today rain! which I knew would happen so as you say a good day to stay in.. waiting on a package from Anni so no hardship there lol
Blocking means sort of damping down and pinning out to dry to get the full effect of lace or any knitting.. bit like when I steam the socks, but lace shawls need a larger area than an ironing board.. Anni has the room so able to block properly.
Love the magazine advice.. look at how much is lost due to modern times lol.. those were the days!
Have a great day and I am loving this them.. in the mood to look for something different myself..
Luv n hugs

Hi, Nikki! That article cracks me up. Of course, some of it still stands true, but the general premise is wild. Lunch with your mum sounds lovely, by the way. I am in the process of reinstalling my blog – just having a bit of a wait with transferring my domain back where it belongs so I can set up at my normal host instead of ___________!!! I am not up to the challenge over there. Well, we have the recent great news that son Matt and family have picked New Iberia as their soon to be future home. They both plan to teach in my school district and have already received the warmest reception in that regard, so it looks good! Have a lovely evening; I see it’s chilly and raining, so cuddle up and enjoy.
morning! thanks for your emails
have sent a couple of brief replies. I need to go and get ready now, we’re off into town this morning.
Cooked one of the recipes from the book you sent me. The apple sauce cakes. Oh My God, how yummy are they? I scoffed two in a row, Bill scoffed three. Even the Little Humbug liked them. I call them a Huge Success, and will transfer them on to a recipe card to put in my recipe box, as I think I’ll make them a lot. Especially in autumn, they’re autumn in a cake! I show a piccie of one of them today
Right. Time to get off here. Mainly to have a shower, but also to snaffle a cake and a brew for breakfast! xxxxxx
afternoon!
took a quick look round Debs today, lots of bargains to be had, but nothing for me. I had to like the Fiorelli pink purse from the new collection (£28, could not spend that much on a purse I didn’t really need). Had a good look round Peacocks, tried on four tops, but decided my rolls of fat showed too much and my boobs looked too big. Such a shame, one of them in particular I loved and would have liked for the summer. But, I wouldn’t have worn it, so no point in buying it. I bought a plain red square necked t-shirt though. I thought for £4 it was fine for pottering about the house in. And, got some superb shoes! ooh, they are lovely. Peep toed double strap Mary-Jane style, in a pinky gold colour. £12. Do you know the ones I mean? I love them. Not too painful to walk in either, which is a bonus.
saw your bag, very nice. And did you see the fringed bag, £8? Was tempted, but it wasn’t big enough fo rme. I have to have quite roomy bags for all the junk I need to cart around.
H&M was a total disappointment. A load of tat, and their kiddies stuff overpriced and what the heck goes on with their sizing for kids stuff? Utter gobbledeegook!
Humbug got two books (little miss naughty and ‘tiger’by Mike Butterworth? I add the q mark, because I can’t quite remember, but it’s something like that)and a glut of yankee candles. So, a good shopping trip!
time I was off. LIttle Magoo needs her scruff mcguff hair washed and lug holes cleaned thoroughly!
hope you are having a great day. ooh, must tell Bill about Dave having his work area extended to include us!
xxxx
