We promised family and friends that at some point we would have a party to celebrate our marriage. As it was just us at the ceremony it seemed only fair! Well, invites were sent out a few weeks ago and it’s next weekend. As Dave works for a brewery which has a perfect setting for parties, that’s where it will be. And I’m lucky enough to have a sister-in-law (Dave’s sister Chris) who is brilliant at organising and catering! I really haven’t had to do very much except say what I’d like and how many are coming (about 75 adults and 15 children). We’re having buffet type foods and I suggested to Chris that instead of having large cakes and cheesecakes etc that we hire a huge cake stand and load it with cupcakes. I’d fully intended to buy the cakes but Chris just loves anything like that and is doing the lot! My mum is providing the wedding cake which will be two tiers…one fruit cake and a smaller sponge at the top. Then it’s going to be draped with plum coloured orchids. I’m organising the decorations and the mum of a child I had last year is doing lots of small flower arrangements for the tables. Yesterday Dave and I went shopping to buy an outfit each as we both wanted something new
Here’s my dress which is from Monsoon and is embellished with gold embroidery. Quite extrovert for me!

Today has been spent rushing around getting the house clean and tidy for our guests next weekend. Dave’s daughter is coming up from Dorset with her husband and two children ![]()

and his oldest son is coming over from Birmingham with his girlfriend ![]()

My son Tom is coming, of course, but has to travel back the same night as his girlfriend is at work early the next day. So that’ll be four adults and two children staying, we’re so excited!
Update on how school is going: little steps of improvement have been made each day with an occasional step backwards. I’m encouraged by how well they’re responding but I know it’s going to be a long haul and that there’ll be disappointments along the way.

Wow I love that dress and everything sounds fab and its bound to be a great night and weekend for all
Sounds like you have the measure of your class and I hope not too many disappointments a long the way.
Thank you for your lovely comment, loving my spinning wheel and the knitting job, started this week.. as for Taryl joining the army, we will see how it goes.. got a few stages to go though first.. at the end of the day he has to do what he is happy doing.
Have a great week

quick hello, as the gang have just arrived back home
Missed that little rascal.
Love your dress, I think it’s really nice. I haven’t made and sent a reply yet (have been so rubbish at doing such things lately), but will try to do so this week. Would love to come, but as you already know, it’s a bit too tricky. But thank you so much for the invite.
It’s still proudly on the front of the fridge.
Sounds as if everything is sorted and the plans are going nicely.
Ha ha! I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks JW looks like a geezer in a dress!
Will probably skip TOTD, it looks a bit tragically sad in the ad, so I’d probably just sit and blub throughout!
zzzz
Hi Nikki, Must be a good day for cleaning as that is what we did this morning as well. I love the dress and the party sounds sounds great, what a nice idea with the cupcakes. Sounds like Chris and Mum are very talented! I have not finished the book yet, yes I know I’m slow, I only read on the bus, but I am enjoying it immensely, just when things get settled something happens to surprise and shock you. *hugs*
Hi Nikki !
I’m sure the wedding party is going to be a hit ! Cupcakes are such a great idea ! And the dress is absolutely gorgeous.
I see everything is perfectly organized, I wouldn’t have expected less from you.
Big hugs !!
Wow you’ve been busy ! And I appreciate you took time to stop by.
I hope your little ones at school will be good & will prove you they can be fab. I’m sure that with time they will. Children can be so surprising !
Have a great start to the new week tomorrow, and a lovely evening & night right now !
Hi Nikki, I love your dress, how nice to have everybody at home & celebrate. I hope your week is starting well, hugs
How exciting to read about your party. The dress is perfectly lovely in every way, and I adore the creative detail of the cupcakes. There is a cupcake shoppe in my niece Samantha’s neighborhood of the Heights in Little Rock. We passed by but didn’t get a chance to go there. I’ll try to see if they have a website! Thanks for your very sweet note about my sister. She is somewhat improved today. Update: Website with nothing on it yet. Pooh! http://www.eatacupcake.com/
morning. Really chilly this morning! Loving it. Yesterday when the girl and I came out of Asda at 8.30, the sky looked really spooky, more like late afternoon than early morning.
About the Tony/Whitney thing. It’s very uncomfortable watching, but I was thinking last night at how well they are doing it and showing how manipulative these pervs are. If it makes one little girl sit up and tell her mum or a teacher that something similar is happening to her, and puts a stop to it, then it will be worth the discomfort of watching it. They are doing it well, and perhaps as a nation we need to see something as uncomfortable as this to stop morons preying on youngsters in this way. More often than not the enemy is within and people close their eyes to the signs.
Time for a shower. Have a good day, hope those little scraps aren’t giving you too much jip! xxxx
ah yes, I am a wise old sage at times!
keep meaning to say to you, that I am totally with you RE Casualty. I cannot stand it! Urgh! And all the time, the BBC are pushing it or having new programmes from it and it does my head in. It’s like ITV and that stupid The Bill rubbish. Yuk! Hate that too, and yet they seem obsessed and it goes on and on and on. What’s wrong with having a few good old sit coms? I didn’t like ‘My Family’ or ‘After you’ve Gone’ when they started, but now I love them. Just good old stupid family comedy. I miss the days of ‘Fresh Fields’ and ‘May to December’. Cosy feel good telly. Bring it back says I! xx
Hi Nikki I hope your party went well – It sounds perfect, especially the cupcakes part. I bet that was really popular with everyone. I love your dress – I am a big Monsoon fan, all the things I have from there make me feel girly
Hope school is going well. Lots of love xxx
