time I updated!

This is the longest pause I’ve had since opening my blog but it is a busy time of year and will be until the end of July. Not that I’ve done many reports yet! Very few in fact. Yesterday I left school at lunchtime as Dave had his two monthly appointment at the renal clinic. We were at the hospital for about three hours as we had to see the dietitian as well. Lots happened, lots to think about but the most important aspect was the fact that Dave’s potassium level has gone high again. So we sat with the dietitian and went through Dave’s daily diet with a fine tooth comb. We’ve already made many changes to his diet but not enough now as the kidneys continue to deteriorate and leave more and more potassium in his body. So out goes most of the cheese he eats in a week, out goes the pint of cider he drinks each evening, out go the hi-juice squashes he guzzles regularly. With any luck, that may be enough for now…….

The weather has been really hot all week…..what did I say?! I even noticed that it was hotter in Cambridge today than in the south of France. Unheard of! the kids have been having a whale of a time going in and out of the classroom in the afternoons. Today was P.E. but we decided to stay in the coolish hall as it was just too hot to do it outside.

Will try to do blog visits either this evening or over the weekend.

  1. So sorry to hear about the potassium thing. It’s not easy to cut back on salt that severely. We don’t add salt to anything we eat, but we do consume what is already in food. I can’t imagine how difficult this will be, but I know you’ll be motivated by the obvious need.

Thanks for the offer. I finally got the banner straight in both browsers; who knows about all the others.! There was a good bit of trial and error involved, but I’ll to summarize in case you need it. The only thing I am changing on the Theme Options page is adding the url for the background graphic. The header info had to be changed in both stylesheets, which I did at the top only with the important code suggested at the top of fauna default CSS (Cascading Style Sheets). I changed to the actual height and url there; doing so on the options page caused the problem. It seems my database is messed up, but I guess I’ll just live with the modifications mentioned – no big deal really.

Sorry to hear you’re working so hard. Also sorry it’s so hot. Heat is really a deflating thing if you don’t have AC. I guess you don’t! Happy Friday!

  3. Hi Nikki, Buddy is a lot of work but fun & cuddly. Sorry about Dave potassium problem, most products have potassium content here, is it the same in UK? I didn’t have enough potassium at a time & tried to get most out of fruits & vegetables.
Sorry you have so much work & having a heat wave. I have friends on the French Riviera complaining of the cold :)
    Have a great weekend, hugs

  4. I am so sorry to read this, Nikki. It must be so hard to have tried hard already with a diet to be told that it still isn’t enough. All my thoughts are with you both.
It’s been really hot here too but I am not complaining, I love the heat, it makes me feel all happy from the time I get up! We have a busy time ahead too at school with reports, I guess it’s getting going which is the hardest as always!
    Have a great weekend, Nikki!
PS: Another header! And that’s a really nice and Summery one! Totally appropriate!
