Happy Easter everyone! What a lovely surprise as we peeped out of the curtains early this morning….lots and lots of snow. I’ve no idea how long it had been there but it continued to snow up until about 10.30am and it was about 4 inches thick on our patio table! Sadly it’s now melting but not before I took some photos. I would imagine that the population of this part of England increased by thousands this morning as snowmen were built aplenty. Let me just emphasise that snow is as rare as hen’s teeth in this part of the UK! I hope all my kids got a chance to get out there and play
We’re having a lovely cosy day, I have a loaf of bread baking and I’ve just made a banana and date cake as we had a surplus of bananas at school on Thursday. I’m a bit strange in that I can’t bear to eat them as a fruit but I love them in a cake or as a milk shake! It’s a Delia Smith recipe where I’ve substituted dates for walnuts (or is it the other way round?!) . Anyway it’s deliciously moist and improves with age.
Yesterday was supposed to be the day that Charley met up with her beau, Cosmo, to make babies!! Well, let’s just say that they had a wonderful time together but there won’t be any babies.
I think we need to read up a bit more on why a female dog will happily flaunt herself and then when the male tries for some action, she almost bites his head off! Here’s a photo of the two of them taken last year when they first met
Of course I had to stop off and do a little shopping in the town where Cosmo lives – they have a Debenhams! I’ve been trying for ages to get a short black shirt dress and at last I found one by Red Herring (my favourite inexpensive make) plus a great stripy top (stripy sailor type tops are everywhere!). Then instead of having an Easter egg I bought myself the latest Goldfrapp album which is utterly sublime…link in right column and hopefully it’s the first piece of music that plays on here when the music player is working!

Hi Nikki, Happy Easter! I’m sorry I can’t share your enthusiasm for the snow, but I can understand why you are enjoying it, I’d be enjoying it too if it snow once a decade. In any case although cold it’s sunny today. Yes we have visited Paris several times, this time we are taking the Eurostar to London for a day. I know it’s short for a visit to London, but we will try to pack in as may sights as possible. Have a nice day. *hugs*
cake looks fantastic, but so does your toaster and the tea pot in the background!
Typical nosey Brit me, have to snoop in the background to see what else I can see!
Totally love Red Herring too. When I was pregnant I had a lovely maternity top from there. It was so pretty and not all matronly and ugly. Often buy bits and bobs from there, the stuff is nice and brilliantly priced. Oh, my jims jams from Primark were £2! How stupid is that? Have a feeling that they won’t be selling the trad looking jarmies any more, and that’s why they were reduced (half price if you please!). All the others that they had were trews and t-shirt type things. Which are ok, but not what I want. They didn’t have any trad kids jarmies either. I’ll have to start hunting around for them for humbug, build up a stash again.
Wasn’t the snow a treat? Sadly, it’s going here too.
blue skies and sunshine if you don’t mind! For God’s Sake! OH well, it was nice while it lasted.
Didn’t get round to making a nanman, as humbug had her nap, when she woke up, time just seemed to slip away and now the snow has gone the same way! At least she got to walk around in it and had a lovely time.
Bill hates nanas in any shape or form. He almost gags when I get him to cut one up for the girl. I can tell you why he hates them. boarding school, back in the day. Apparently they made him eat banana custard, and were the type of school that made kids clear the plate, so he hid it in his pockets (eww!) and has never touched a nana since!
sounds like you have had a lovely Easter weekend. I’m off into town on Tuesday a.m again, nothing for me, but the usual monthly stock up on nappies and wetwipes and dum dums for Magoo! Shopping is shopping, and I love it whatever I’m buying. (well, unless it’s clothes for self, can’t bear having to look at the reflection in the changing rooms)
time I was off. ooh, can’t wait to make the apple sauce cakes, they sound so yummy. When I’m craving autumn they will be perfect!
xxxxxx
Happy Easter Nikki, enjoy your snow! Your cake looks delicious. Hugs
you are up early!
And at least morning traffic isn’t as bad for commuters either.
shame about the sunshine here this morning, but watching the weather reports, they might be just a little bit more snow on the way! Hope so. Nice for the kids to be off school when there is snow about
we’re off to Dunelm soon. I managed to smash a glass measuring jug on Friday, I use it for humbugs milk, so I’ve really missed it. The only ones they had in lakeland were massive and about a fiver, for the same make, but smaller, Dunelm sells them for about a quid! Much as I love Lakeland, they are a tad overpriced with some things.
have a fab day xxxxxx
Morning Nikki, hope you had a nice Easter Holiday, its sounds anyway very cosy when I see the yummy cake and the delicious hot tea on the pic, although the snow tells me that it was cold outside*brr* But we here also got some snow, but it didn´t lasted for a long time,my hubby loves snow and was a bit sad as it was melten away

Wishing you a good start into the new week and drop off some *HUGS*

Wow lucky you to get some snow, shame it didn’t last.. we had a few flakes on Saturday and that was it.
Oh I love bananas and dates in cakes and yours looks scrummy, I made a simnel cake and a chocolate squishy thing as Troy doesn’t like fruit cakes..
Only have to cast of the shawl and darn in ends, its been a dream to work on, so soft and gorgeous.
Happy reading and odd how the school hols are so different this year and your right will make your summer term longer.. mind you Exeter often has hols different to others lol
Enjoy your break
Luv n hugs Pixie xxx

Hi Nikki! Lucky you having two weeks off! We only had Friday and today. Back to school tomorrow. But only 53 more to go before we are out for summer! I can’t wait this year. I’m trying very hard to make sure there aren’t alot of bills so I can be off without a worry! Your yard looks pretty, but keep it there! It has been getting into the 50′s for us and sunny. I’m loving it! You have a good week. Hugs
