Well I had to call it that didn’t I?! When I posted last Sunday I fully intended to write more during the week but all I had time for was a quick decoration job for Halloween and then a change back to Autumn. Huh, November already! And I’m still dressing in summer clothes, arrrgghhh. Last week it actually was lovely and cold down in Dorset and I was able to wear my black opaques and shooboots plus a beautiful velvet coat I bought down there. Today I went out in same clothes and I was BOILING!! Oh for some cold weather again, this mild weather is horrible!!
Anyway, part two of we’re home ….. I did manage to find money to buy myself a few new clothes for winter,
, hopefully one of these days I’ll be able to wear them. My plum velvet coat was a real find, costing only £30 from one of the wonderful cheaper shops we have in the UK. It’s so me….I try to always be fashionable but at the same time a bit different. I’ve been looking all week to find a suitable brooch to go on it as it was crying out for one. Finally found one on eBay, handmade applique felt, just what I was looking for. It arrived this morning and is very pretty. If I had the time and equipment I could do something like this myself. I’ve already decided to try and find time to either knit or crochet myself a flower brooch as well……I’ve never crocheted but hopefully someone at work will be able to show me how to do it. Other things I bought down in Dorset, from my favourite shop, Debenhams, were a high waisted black knee length skirt with buttons across the tummy plus a very useful black pinafore and a pretty dress to wear for Christmas parties. All are Red Herring who, in my opinion, are the most reliable make there is for affordable, fashionable clothes.
This week has, as always, been busy but very enjoyable. Maxie Monkey started his new job on Monday and has already taught 9 children how to blend and segment cvc’s ….. in plain English that means they can read and write 3 letter words!
This morning we went for coffee with my mum, a tradition that’s been going on for many years. Originally it was my mum and dad meeting up with a group of old friends. Then when dad died, I kind of took his place to keep mum company. When Dave and I got together he joined us as well. We were the youngsters of the group! Our meeting place has changed many times over the years but the group has remained the same until last week when one of our dear friends very sadly died. Wal was a retired teacher, a fine musician and raconteur. Well known in our town through his music and the shows he would put on at the local theatre. A true gentleman, kind and funny, much loved by all who knew him. His death, which resulted from Myeloma, cancer of the bone marrow (only diagnosed about six weeks ago), has deeply affected me. I will forever remember his wicked sense of humour and how he would always tease me on the first day of my school holidays by saying “When do you go back?”…. something that had always irritated him when being asked the same when he was also a teacher. His funeral is on Monday and I’m positive it will be a highly emotional and very well attended event. His two sons were there this morning and we found out that one of them (an actor and writer) will be doing the eulogy and the other (a composer) has written a piece of music for him. A local singer with the most amazing voice will be singing Pie Jesu. Not a dry eye in the church, I’m quite sure.
