where did the week go?

Culminating in our visit to the Norfolk Broads yesterday, it’s been a busy week. We started off with Dave returning to work on Monday, thankfully with no ill effects apart from, to be expected, fatigue. Monday also heralded the arrival of our new interactive whiteboards which were put in place throughout the week. Much excitement ensued I’m thankful to say as not all teachers were convinced of their merit. That would include me to a certain extent but after only having it installed for a few mins, I was sold! If you can imagine a paint programme with the different thicknesses of paintbrushes, palette of colours etc on your computer screen then picture it about 6ft by 6ft, then that’s what the IWB can look like. With a special pen that goes with it, you can then draw a huge smiley sun! Well that’s what I did anyway….I then held the pen up for the children and asked them what colour ink it had and they all responded yellow, of course! To which I produced a piece of paper and tried to draw on it…. nothing happened. It is of course, a magic pen that can change colour, move things around the screen, rub out and do everything the click of a mouse can do. Wonderful stuff! Here’s a picture of the board, not terribly good. I’ll take another this week with some work on it, this is showing the desktop on the class computer! The orange thing is the projector.

Tuesday we had our first trip to the Broads as Dave’s sister needed us to take something over for her. We had a lovely meal by the river and they invited us to come again at the weekend. Wednesday I had a meeting after school to discuss arrangements for mentoring another school with the phonics programme we piloted last year…..found out that we’re expected to do twice as many meetings as we originally thought, so not too happy about that, and all for no extra money as well……typical in education I’m afraid!

Thursday we had Dave’s appointment at the hospital to confirm whether he was ok to go back on dialysis, which he was. First night, the alarm on the machine went off every hour!! Fortunately, after speaking to his dialysis nurse, he was able to rectify the problem for the following night :) This photo is for Sadie :) … after the hospital visit we popped into town and called into John Lewis for coffee and a bite to eat. Couldn’t resist taking a photo of my delicious raspberry flavoured fairy cake :)

Yesterday we had our lovely boat trip around the Broads. I’d never been there before, despite living only a mile away from the Norfolk border! As a family we’ve always favoured another part of Norfolk…the coast between Hunstanton and Cromer. Right on the Broads is an English seaside favourite…Great Yarmouth which I’ve never been to as it’s way too commercialised for me (from what I’ve heard anyway!).

We had a slow meander (4 mph!) around the rivers and saw lots of wildlife, particularly birds like herons, grebe and other wildfowl. It was a beautiful day and I think I could get quite used to lazing on the deck while the men do all the men bits like steering and mooring etc! After we got back, Dave and his sister and BIL jumped off deck and spent a few hours fishing while I sat sipping wine, catching up with the week’s fashion and gossip magazines….LOVELY!! Between them they managed to catch 36 fish! Dave won the smallest and largest fish competition…see below!

We finished the evening off with a slap up meal of fish and chips!

Well, a week today summer will be over and it’ll be the first day of Autumn. Because of this I’m using every opportunity to sustain my tan. It’s quite amazing how lovely the weather has been since school resumed, pah!

  1. Hi Nikki I’m glad all went well with Dave’s check up. It looks as though you had a wonderful time on the Broads. We went to the Norfolk coast one year on holiday and one day we did go along the Broads on a riverboat trip which was amazing, so pretty. Some of the houses along the edge are quite charming. Well done to Dave on his fishing prowess :) The whiteboard looks fabulous, are those two familiar faces I can spot from your classroom desktop? :) Hope you enjoy the forth coming week lots of love xxx

  2. :em25: I so want that fairy cake! thanks for taking the piccie. I bought a choccy fairy cake mix on Saturday, it comes with everything including sprinkles. Cannot wait until the weather turns cooler so I can have a fab time pottering in the kitchen. I’ve even stopped lighting my pumpkin scented candles at the moment, as it feels too summery for them.

crikey, you’ve been busy this week. I’m glad Dave is ok and back at work again (though he might have preferred being off work!!!)

I like Norfolk. Bill and I stayed there a few years back, with Dudley of course. We don’t go anywhere if Tiny Tiger can’t come with us! He was a huge factor when Bill chose his new car, it was all about humbugs stuff (and her!) fitting in, but also for Dud and all his stuff when we go away!

the white board looks great. I think K & E’s schools have had them for a while – I could be wrong, they look the same – so I have a pretty good idea of how they work.

I think Adele is probably going to win, but it’s a tough call. I had pondered on it being a Paul/Barry final, but wasn’t exactly shocked when Paul was booted out. I agree, it’s been a great show this time. I love MPW, he seems like such a sweetie. Maybe he’s mellowed with age, as he used to be a bit of a git apparently!

ok.got to go. I’ve chiselled the limescale off the taps, so now I can get on with the ironing. The glamour! :em68: xxxxx :em40:

  3. p.s Great Yarmout is ok if you want to play on the games or buy a load of beach tat. It is not really a very nice place to visit, or rather, I don’t like it that much. It’s worse than Southend!!!!!!! :em18:

  4. Hi Nikki, I love how that cake sounds, just the name “Fairy” makes me want some, but I’m off sweets for now. :em28: I will watch for the movie Atonement I like James McAvoy. I almost bought the book a couple of weeks ago, but chose The Eight by Catherine Neville instead. I saw James McAvoy in Becoming Jane, I really liked him in that. We just finished watching Even Money, the film has a superb cast, Danny DeVito, Kim Basinger Ray Liotta, Kelsey Grammer and Forest Whitaker. Have a nice week. *hugs* :em70:

  5. I’m guessing what you call Fairy Cakes we call cupcakes here? Isn’t it funny the different names! The white board sounds like I would love to use it. I am having a good time in Math this year. My kids I work with are great! Can you believe summer is almost gone? I know a certain Brit that is very happy about that! Have a good week. Hugs

  9. :em70: hello! a quick note from me as I can hear a child charging around and squealing downstairs. No prizes for guessing who!!! :em22:

So Barry won HK. I waited until AD read out the name, then switched off, I couldn’t wait up to hear what he felt about winning, I was too tired. That’s the best thing about both BB and HK finishing, though I am sorry that neither are on anymore, at least I can go to bed at 9 now if I want to! Hurrah! :em68:

hope you’ve had a good day. lots of love to you .. ooh, chilly last night wasn’t it? been a bit too sunny for my liking this p.m though! xxxx
